I am truly sorry to hear about your wife and your misfortune. That is a very touching thing she did getting you that Scharnhorst tally. It looks in incredible condition. As for price, That was quite a nice bargain price IMO. A tally like this generally goes for around 200-250 Euro, some dealers have them listed for 300 Euro. You got quite a deal with this one. A nice Panzerschiff one from the Admiral Scheer and Deutschland are more available than period Admiral Graf Spee which can run into bigger bucks since they are more coveted. The Schlachtschiff muetzenbands are limited and don't turn up as often. The Scharnhorst is more common to find, than the Gneisenau. This is a great looking muetzenband and will hold special significance since it was a gift from your wife. (She did good ) Best of luck to you and your family and congratulations on acquiring such a nice tally. Regards, Justin 2dresq

So I have added two other additions: A metalfaden version of the Linienschiff Hannover and I got the U=begleitschiff Erwin Wassner. So, These are the ones I have remaining: Unterseebootstender Mosel U=Begleitschiff Waldemar Kophamel U=Begleitschiff Otto Wuensche U=Begleitschiff Wilhelm Bauer. If any of you come across these, I would be grateful. I am also missing 5 destroyer tallies. Thanks for looking, JustinG

Kriegsmarine KM Breast Eagle
2dresq replied to Peter BL's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Wehrmacht Medals, Decorations & Awards
Always learning more. I had seen some of these with this kind of configuration where there is not the block/barrel hinge set-up. Gordon, Do you feel that these are just too controversial and have been perhaps compromised with post war pieces that it makes it difficult to know originality? Here was the bird that I was referencing off which appears to be similar to the one that Peter displayed. This comes from Tim Ball's collection. Thanks gentlemen. Regards, JustinG 2dresq -
Kriegsmarine KM Breast Eagle
2dresq replied to Peter BL's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Wehrmacht Medals, Decorations & Awards
I for one, like it! These breast eagles dress up a display nicely. I am not sure if there has ever been a maker attributed to these. I have a few metal eagles. Mine are all maker marked of the KM variety. Here is a link to a discussion that was had over at WAF. http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/showthread.php?t=501916&highlight=Maker+KM+eagle This also has some great photos shown of various eagles and designs. Best regards, JustinG 2dresq -
Please don't forget those collectors who live on the other side of the "pond". I too would like to purchase one of these when they become available. Too bad you can't link this site to the manufacturer to see that there is a market/demand for quality items such as the one you displayed. Best Regards, JustinG

Kriegsmarine KM breast eagle
2dresq replied to 2xvetran's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Uniforms, Headwear, Insignia & Equipment
This looks like a standard, probably enlisted embroidered eagle. It could go on any uniform that would take a black eagle. The backing is interesting; it is only the inside when you separate the backing from the eagle that shows up brown? With backing inplace, it looks black. Is this correct? Regards, JustinG -
The standard Unterseebootschule tally is not as uncommon as say the Unterseebootsabwehrschule, Unterseebootsschuleflottille tallies. I would estimate around 150 Euro is a fair price to pay.. I got a decent one on ebay for 90USD. Shown here, there is a bit of fraying on the "h". This is my duplicate. That being said, there is no unterseeboot tally that is just out there "floating" around. Regards, JustinG

Kriegsmarine U-92 Plaque
2dresq replied to cabart13's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Wehrmacht Medals, Decorations & Awards
Agree with the above. A very nice piece. How much does this piece weigh since it is over a meter long? What is the construction please? Regards, JustinG -
These K-Verbande insignia are quite expensive. I was hoping to find out about this one myself. Here is a one that is 2 grades above yours that is considered to be original by other forums and members. I believe yours could have some hope as being an original. **** This is just an opinion from someone who is not experienced enough with this to make the determination. These awards are rare and so command a high price. This can be an expensive mistake, so it is best to wait for others with more experience to comment.*** Regards, Justin 2dresq

Kriegsmarine GWL Sub Badge
2dresq replied to Peter BL's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Wehrmacht Medals, Decorations & Awards
To have a badge that has held on to its golden gilt as well as this one and the cut out swastika being undamaged. This is a really nice piece. GWL's are nice badges. They and the Juncker eagles are the best designed ones. IMHO. Congrats on the addition! Justin 2dresq
