    1. Here are some close ups as you requested. The Mexican campaign ribbon is old and quite fragile so I do think it is a period one probably original to the medal.
    2. Hello all, I thought I would share my french medal collection with the group. I relatively recently started studying and collecting french medals. I've long since gotten tired of the snivelling, back biting and general level of ignorance in the TR scene and gave it up for british medals several years ago but not being wealthy I have achieved probably all I am going to without mortgaging my soul away for those few astronomically priced bits left to own. My grandfather was french so it seemed logical to start on french medals. So here we go with my humble offering: #1 Older campaigns
    3. I collect French medals and do have some unit insignia and para badges. Garth
    4. Jerome, I just registered on the French forum. I have known about it for awhile but my french is so miserable I have hesitated to get on. I have only recently started to collect French ODMs but have been a lifelong collector of British and US medals. I have started on French medals so as to keep my collecting interest up and to keep learning so the old brain doesn't stagnate. I only have one Nichan Iftikar and I'm sure it is of no great consequence. Regards, Garth
    5. I'm not sure this is the proper spot for this question but since it is a French colonial order here we go. Does anyone know of a website or publication that would clarify which Bey the arabic lettering in the center of the order indicates. Garth
    6. Here are three examples of the shoulder patch worn by the contingent in the KW. Garth
    7. As a point of interest, here is the medal with two variations of the shoulder patch worn by the members of the Brigade. Both are japanese made. Garth
    8. Here is a group I have with the Zaire medal possibly to an advisor? Garth
    9. Thank you all for the replies and identification. The ribbon looks to be for the french Commerative Medal of the 1870-71 War, alternating green/black. Garth
    10. I can't help myself, when I see something interesting I usually have to have it. I found this unusual medal at the SOS '08 in a junk box on a dealers table. It looks to be from Siam?? Can anyone please ID it? Thanks, Garth
    11. Gentlemen, Thank you all for taking the time to answer my question on these badges. Do any of you have any recommendations for reference books on french insignia both metal and cloth. Garth
    12. I would greatly appreciate any help from the members IDing these french badges, Thanks in advance, Garth
    13. For those few of you who might be interested in french badges and para wings made by DRAGO I ran across this summary of dates vs changes in the DRAGO trademark. I thought it would be of use to help avoid buying a badge say for the Indochina period when in fact it is later. Hope this is help. Garth
    14. In case no one has noticed a section has been added to the military database for British insignia. I know I'm not the only one that collects cloth formation badges and additions would be most welcome. Garth
    15. Corps of Navigator insignia is very scarce . Here is my humble offering. Garth
    16. Herman Goering Division, Major. I believe less than 5 officers ever held this rank.
