    1. Hello I've just got this KVK 2 without swords and packet of issue. The KVK is marked '84' on the ring for Carl Pellath, Schrobenhausen. The paper packet has the same makers name on the rear. It all looks good to me. As usual any comments or observations welcomed. Thanks for looking.
    2. Hello No one got any thoughts or comments on this one? Btt
    3. Hello Thanks for the comments Paul. The same thought had crossed my mind as well. It's one of those things that will never be known one way or the other. Either way it appears to be of the period.
    4. Hello I know what you mean. It took me a while to decipher mine as '19', but that's what it is. Thanks.
    5. Hello Thanks for that Laurence. The maker mark on mine matches yours exactly, and the KVKs look the same as well. I know the paper packet doesn't match to the maker of the KVK, but that's how Detlev sold it - I suppose some sort of mix and match ! I don't know much about paper packets, but from what little I do know, plus information from on the forums, I think this one is ok. Hopefully someone may be able to say ?
    6. Hello I have just acquired a non combatant EK 2. The EK is standard three piece construction, with magnetic iron core. The ring stamping is quite worn but appears to be either 'WS' or 'W&S'. The ribbon doesn't glow under UV light and passes the burn test. As usual, any comments or observations welcomed.
    7. Hello I've just got this KVK 2 with swords and packet of issue. The KVK is marked '19' on the ring for E. Ferd. Wiedmann, Frankfurt am Main. It all looks good to me. As usual any comments or observations welcomed. Thanks for looking.
    8. Hello I have just taken delivery of my first ever 1870 EK. This is an 1870 EK2. It measures 42.13mm across by 42.04mm high. Three piece construction, with magnetic iron centre. The eye on the top arm is attached at the rear, but not at the front - and as far as I can tell it doesn't look like it ever was. I posted pictures from the dealers site of this cross in an earlier thread and got thumbs up. Hopefully, with these pictures, it will still get a thumbs up !! As usual, any comments or observations welcome. Thanks for looking.
    9. Hello A very nice Souval. Thanks for showing. Is it brass cored ? Where the paint's missing on the swastika arm it looks brass coloured in the picture.
    10. Hello I can't be absolutely certain, but this looks like it may be by Klein und Quenzer, manufacturer '65' during WW2. A nice cross either way.
    11. Hello Daniel Many thanks for that. This is the first one these that I will have bought, (yes, I've taken the plunge and ordered it - it's from a reputable dealer, so fingers crossed), and I have only ever seen one 'in the hand', hence my posting on here. I've done what reading up and research on these I can and was pretty happy it was ok, but it's always good to other opinions - especially from those with experience of these. So thanks for the reply. When it arrives I'll post more pictures of it.
    12. Hello I have seen this 1870 EK2 for sale and would like to buy it, but I am wondering if it is the real thing or not. Any help and advice will be warmly welcomed. Many thanks in advance.
    13. Hello A very nice, original cross. In my opinion this EK is by S.Jablonski Gmb H, manufacturer '128'.
    14. Hello Apparently it is known that are recipients of the 935-4 RKs. Vern Bowen in his book 'The Prussian and German Iron Cross' notes one RK marked 935-4 which was the award cross to a known recipient. That said, it was the only one out of 40 RKs, (all recipients known according to Bowen), examined by Bowen. The predominant markings Bowen encountered were L/12 800, (9 out of the 40), and just 800, (15 out of the 40).
    15. Hello I've just received this EK2, maker maked '120' for Franz Petzl of Wien, (Vienna). It looks to me like a text book cross by this manufacturer. One more off the list of known manufacturers of iron crosses. Plenty still left to get though !! As usual, any comments or observations welcome.
    16. Hello A beautiful K&Q One day I to will have an RK in my collection !! Until then please keep posting beautys like this one so that I can sit here drooling over them.
    17. Hello Many thanks to all for the information. Yes, the medal card is my grandfathers, but it doesn't list the MSM on it. At least I know now what it is he got and the sort of reasons behind the award. Again many thanks to all.
    18. Hello Michael Thanks for the website details. I might try that.
    19. Hello Ed Many thanks for that. Unfortunately I no longer have his medals. When I went off to college, many years ago, my Mother decided to clear out some off my 'rubbish'. Along with various other 'worthless and junk' items she threw out both of my grandfathers medals, uniform buttons, badges etc. The only item that survived was a badge to do with some football league !! I've attached shots of it purely for historical interest. I might have a go at at seeing if I can trace anything on his MSM via the records office. If I do find anything I'll let you know.
    20. Hello Paul Thanks for the information. I am slightly confused as my grandfather was only in the RFC / RAF from 1915 until 1918 / 1919. If this is a long service award, how did he earn it after only 3 or 4 years service ? Was there some other criteria that would have led to the awarding of this medal ?
