    1. Hello I have this KVK1 with Swords in my collection about which I have always harboured doubts as to it's originality. I would be extremely grateful for your opinions on it. As you will see from the scans, unfortunately the pin is missing. One way or the other I would like to find out once and for all if it is the genuine article or just another fake. It measures 48mm x 48mm when measured across the extreme points of the cross and weighs 24 grams. Most of the 'frosting' is still in evidence as are the polished highlights. Any and all comments and opinions warmly welcomed. Many thanks. Regards David
    2. Hello Many thanks for the replies. I had assumed that it was something to do with Vikings tendency for raiding places and the association with what the auxillary cruisers were up to. Matt, I agree these are a really nice award, especially the early ones. Sadly I have yet to add one to my collection, although I have just aquired a nice early 57 version, (see this thread : http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=7178 ) Thanks to you both for the information.
    3. Hello Can anyone explain why what appears to be a Viking longboat is used on the Auxillary Cruiser Badges ? Any ideas or thoughts on this would be appreciated. Many thanks.
    4. Hello Grant Thanks for the comments. Out of interest, do you, or anyone on the forum, know why a Viking ship was used on these awards ? Is there some sort of teutonic connection or link ?
    5. Hello Grant I don't know on that one. I can't find anything in any of my books that says if you could wear both awards or not. I suppose that if someone did move between forces and won the same or similar award it would look strange to wear both of them. But whether there is actually anything that prevents it I don't know. If I can find anything on this I'll let you know.
    6. Hello Those are really nice - especially the very early EK1. Thanks for sharing them
    7. Hello I have just received these two 57 versions of the Auxillary Cruiser award and the Krim shield. As always, any comments or observations welcomed.
    8. Hello Gordon These are very nice examples. Thanks for showing them. It is it possible to tell early shields from later or even 'collectors produced' items ?
    9. Hello Grant Is it possible that this person served in both the army and the airforce at some point in his career ? It is known that some service personel did move from the army to the airforce and vise versa.
    10. Hello Very, very nice. Now that's the sort of failure to resist temptation that I like see !! Congratulations
    11. Rear of early version RK. Both the suspension loop and the rim are marked '800'.
    12. Hello These are the 57 awards that I have at present, although I have a couple more on the way and I'll post them as soon as I receive them. From the top left they are a cased late manufactured RK with oak leaves, (the type with the bad paint job to the core, ie painted after the frames were soldered up), a cased early issue S&L RK, (complete with the die flaws), and cased DKiS. The bottom row, from the left are a blockade runner award, destroyer award and a DKiG.
    13. Hello A very nice example of one of the rarer EKs. Thanks for sharing it.
    14. Hello I can't see anything wrong with these ribbons. As you say, some have the more pronunced 'humps' on the outer edges but I have seen genuine original ribbons that are pretty 'flat' along the outside as well. But these on show here look ok to me.
