    1. Hi Tony, the badge in question is the "City of Birmingham" peace celebrations 1919.
    2. My badge and medal collection (red cross). Some military some not. Royalty, WW1 commemeration, sweet heart badges and railway.
    3. Thanks again Jim for all your feedback on this, this is what I enjoy about this forum is the effort put in by everyone when questions are asked. Long may it continue.
    4. This is the Cuban vic displayed along with Italy, Serbian and USA.
    5. When I purchased this medal fairly recently I said to my wife this is either an original or a very good copy. But I only paid £18/$27 for it so no big deal if it is a copy.
    6. I appreciate all your efforts and comments on this guys. I have added some more pictures taken without a flash.
    7. Thanks for all your input on this guy's much appreciated.I have to agree that I think this is a copy also. Thought that when I bought it so no surprises either but still looks nice with my other Vic's.
    8. Hi Everyone, just been reading up on this thread, a great source of information and I like the interest it has sparked amongst you all. I have just recently bought a Cuban Victory medal on the assumption that it may well be a French copy from the 1920's? The medal has the Charles signature but no edge markings. Would appreciate any feed back on this please. It also had with it type of securing pin as attached to French military medals. I didn't part with much cash for this so no great loss. It displays with my Italian and Serbian Victory medals.
    9. Thanks for the information on this and for all your input, much appreciated.
    10. Guys I appreciate your input, thanks. Just looking at the 2 makes of this medal and the HLP one is much thicker on the planchette but finish on both and ribbon etc is of a high quality. I also have a Simco marked one without the box. I can assume based on the numbers that these 2 and perhaps the Simco (E H Simon) are all Government contractors.
    11. That's odd because according to that article there would only be 3 suffix numbers and not 4? Very strange. But like the papers I don't believe all I read on the web, sorry but been mis informed before on wiki?
    12. I have in my USA medal collection 2 Vietnam service medals in their original boxes. Both made by different makers, one being HLP (Lordship products) the other is I think a Williams and Anderson. On both boxes there is the federal stock number 8455-926-1664 I am assuming this dates the establishment of this medal to 1964 and not the manufacture. Both boxes have a DSA number, the HLP is 100-4411 and the Williams 100-69-C-2506.The HLP medal dates from circa 64-67 but on the Williams box it has been hand written 11/69. Does anyone know what DSA is for and what the numbers signify?
    13. Just acquired this Soldiers Medal along with 6 other US medals but this one is named to "Harvey G Brande". The only Harvey G Brande I can find is from Vietnam. Harvey Gordan Brande Rank E7/US army special forces Company C Det A-101 5th special forces group. DOB 13 Nov 1936, Long Beach Ca. 7th Feb 1968 Lang Vei special forces camp was attacked by NVA and H G Brande was taken prisoner along with others. Given MIA status and identified as POW in 1969. released 1973. Awarded 2 silver stars, the soldiers medal and POW medal.Whilst Brande was taking part in Op Blackjack Twelve 6th April 1967 he and his men tried to rescue the crew of a crashed air controller aircraft and Brande entered the plane wreckage even though there was exploding ammo to search for survivors but there were non. Now this medal came from a collection of various militaria and collectibles that has not seen the light of day for some time(so I'm told). The other 6 medals were Navy Achievement on loop suspender, Navy Nicaragua campaign 1912 on wrap suspender, no number looks in mint condition so may have been unissued? A Korean war service, 2nd Nicaraguan campaign (modern issue), Mexican border service 16-17 (modern issue) and Outstanding volunteer service medal. This soldiers medal intrigues me as to how it came to be with the others in the collection and is it genuine?
    14. Picked this up as a pair today along with a glider pilots badge. Not sure what this is? I was told its US air force but nothing I've ever seen before? Does have a screw back.
    15. Found this website recently about names on Purple Hearts: www.purplehearts.net Lots of information reference naming etc well worth a look.
    16. Quite a mixed bag this bought off a work colleague. 2 Carlisle US Army bandages both marked large. British made US bandage pouch M E & Co 1944. 2 boxes of MSA ear defenders ear plugs in their original plastic boxes large and medium. US Navy pull matches with still most in the packet. A complete packet of B&W cigarette papers, complete packet of TUMS antacid mints and a complete tin of Aspirins 16 in total made by the Certified Pharmal Co NY. A sealed empty envelope dated March 5 1945 Piqua, Ohio to a H Fluegel, PO Box 646 Franklin Sta. Washington 4, D.C. from Samuel Avy Jr, 745 South Downing St, Piqua, Ohio. Its an interesting lot for sure. I have seen and already have a similar set of the Carlisle bandages which I bought back from France and I have seen US kit made in the UK but the ear defenders are most intriguing?
    17. I empathise 100% having recently had 2 of our grown ups leave home I now have access to my museum/office. I've managed to fill almost every space with my collection but there are a few small places left plus a wardrobe full but this room is mine and mine alone. No bed just desks and bookshelf, display cabinet and I love it. My own little oasis of collectable heaven. However my other half has taken control of the larger spare bedroom to do her sewing in. Loads more room and a bed plus furniture but hey ho on we go.......collecting that is.
    18. Zut Alors! Ow cumm zis ess possable? He or she could have been in the SOE,,,,,now there's a tale.....a very tall one maybe?
    19. Linden, thanks for your nice comments much appreciated. At the back of the medal case there is a mounting hole for a screw or nail fixing that allows the case to be wall mounted.
    20. Apologies I should have posted a picture of the battledress only it is for sale on the internet and I did not want to appear I was advertising it. However I have now discovered these tickets do have printed on them Metropolitan Paris and Chemin de Fer which I believe these could be Paris Metro tickets which is strange to find 1942 dated tickets in a British Battledress? Very Odd me thinks?
