    1. Thanks Paul! So just #8 is still problematic. Here's one more very interesting photo with different medal bar. I'm guessing it should be from somewhere between 1883 and 1886. White Eagle, Takovo with Swords and St. Sava 1st class. Medal bar: 1) Restoration of the Kingdom Medal 2) White Eagle 3) Takovo V with Swords 4) St. Sava 5) Russian Order of St. George 6) Bulgarian Order of Bravery (III grade 2nd class, he's one of 9 cavaliers of the Order of Bravery I grade) 7) Order of the Star of Romania with Swords 8) Wars for Liberation and Independence Commemorative Medal 9) Romanian Military Virtue Cross 10) ???
    2. I've had this photo for some time and I was never able to correctly identify all of the medals on medal bar. Do you gentlemen perhaps recognize some of them? I believe photo was made somewhere between 1898 and 1900 during his son's reign. At that time Milan was the supreme commander of the army. I'll also post other photos I found online over the years. White Eagle, Takovo with Swords and St. Sava 1st class. Medal bar: 1) 40 Years of St. Andrew's Day Assembly Medal 2) Restoration of the Kingdom Medal 3) Wars for Liberation and Independence Commemorative Medal 4) 60 Years of King's Guard Medal 5) Serbo-Bulgarian War of 1885-86 Commemorative Medal 6) Serbian Red Cross Order 7) Romanian Military Virtue Cross 8) ??? perhaps Romanian Defenders of Independence Medal 9) ??? Franz Joseph 50 Years of Reign Medal (or something else with Franz on front side) 10) ??? Turkish? 11) ??? Turkish?
    3. Thanks, I tried to dig up something about that badge but so far nothing. Official regulations from 1989 state that members of the Presidency wore same kind of metal badge as officers. I don't know if that was the case before '89. Translation: Five-pointed star with metal base for cap of active military officers of the ground forces and air force, except generals and for war uniform cap of members of the Presidency of SFRY. Collar tab and shoulder strap for war uniform of members of the Presidency.
    4. Thanks Rogi, for some reason I always thought it must be something domestic. If it's foreign it's less likely to be identified based on that photo.
    5. One more brilliant White Eagle appeared not that long ago. I've been discussing it with Utopis today, here's the link for those who missed the auction: http://www.zeige.com/cgi-bin/cat-art-index.pl?art_no=393&rubrik=6100&lang=d&kat=auktionskatalog
    6. According to information I dug up since I started this topic person in question was awarded with Takovo V in 1893, and became captain 1st class in 1894. So the photo was made somewhere between 1894 and 1900. I am still not sure what could that medal be so if anyone has any ideas I'm more than interested to hear them.
    7. On 2nd type (both variants) top of the worker's head is "flat". TYPE 2, 1st variant (silver)
    8. Now here's the trick how to easily tell types apart. On earlier type top of the head of the worker with hammer is "round". TYPE 1
    9. Here are both types including both variants of the second type.
    10. Greetings GC, nice to see you on the forum again. Very nice collection of cap badges! I just have one question, can you tell us something more about that cloth badge for generals? I don't remember seeing it before.
    11. I think I know what's the story behind strange description. I was just checking to see what was the price one more War Banner achieved on that famous HD Rauch auction couple of years ago. When I finally found it, translated the text from German to English and noticed that the translation of the description on HDRauch is the same as the description on ebay. Check it out: http://www.sixbid.com/browse.html?auction=304&category=4558&lot=240251 HDR One of the highest military decorations in communist Yugoslavia. Order of the Yugoslav Flag with Silver Star was founded on January 1, 1952, awarded to senior officers who showed outstanding bravery, self-sacrifice and Commanding abilities. In practice, this order was awarded for high military commanders during the war, at least the commanded a division and have remained after the war in the Yugoslav Army. There are two models of this order, the first model is seen more as a prototype. The second model is made of gold, silver, diamonds and rubies, and has no hallmark, who later models, IKOM 'hallmark. Awards to 31 December 1985:. 205 piece (D) Order ratne zastave . . 2 Model, 2.Type (without hallmarking), breast star, gold, worked hollow, silver, partly. RRbestowal: II EBAY "Order ratne zastave",2. Model, 2.Type (without hallmarking), breast star, gold, worked hollow, silver, partly. Emailliert, "a jour" with numerous diamonds and rubies on silver needle, in the original, red presentation case with document. Stones not checked. 12. I hope you won the lottery since you wrote the last time The order looks OK to me, really I can't see anything wrong with it. As for the price, last War Banner I saw on ebay (2013) was sold for about the same amount. Unfortunately I don't remember if the stones were genuine but I doubt it. Only the order was on sale, so no box and no document. I think that it's not likely that the stones on the one from ebay are real. There are definitely hallmarks on the back side. I think that everything's OK with the document and that it was just "photoshopped". If the seller left the year visible we could probably check who was the recipient. About the silver needle, that also looks good to me, I saw same thing on many other examples. Actually on all orders I have images of needle looks the same.
    13. 800$ http://www.ebay.com/itm/Serbia-Serbian-Chetnik-Badge-Original-/321730897136?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ae8a7e4f0&nma=true&si=xckCpyeNN5f34zpnRc%2BzfMQorJc%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
    14. PS now that we're discussing his private life I found information online that he was married to the daughter of Nikola Pašić.
    15. Such a handsome fellow plus a diplomat and future prime minister, I reckon it's her loss
    16. Greeting Paul, His name is not correctly written (for understandable reasons), it should be Božidar Purić (Божидар Пурић). Wiki page about him http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Božidar_Purić He was prime minister of the government in exile formed in 1943 among other things.
    17. First the facts: -Photo should be from 1890 -Recipient is I believe judicial captain 1st class born in 1860 -First decoration is obviously Order of the Cross of Takovo 5th class -Medal in question is on suspension ring and has a multi color ribbon Considering that this person was born in 1860 chances that it could be something from the Wars of 1876-78 are in my opinion slim, especially because the medal doesn't seem to be 1876-77-78 Commemorative War Medal. It obviously isn't Medal for Military Virtues (1883). Absence of 1885-86 Commemorative War Cross suggests it can't be 1885-86 Bravery Medal (apart from that golden is on completely red ribbon, and the silver is smaller than one on the photo) but could it be Medal for Zealous Service in War of 1885-86? Size is about right and its ribbon is red with 4 blue stripes... I don't know could an officer receive it without being awarded with the Commemorative War Cross, even the judicial one. I am pretty sure it can't be Royal Household Medal. So I am running out of ideas, does anyone know what that medal might be? All comments are more than welcome.
    18. PS the badge on the first photo looks like Russian Nikolaevsky School of Engineers badge.
    19. Not from museum but still interesting, Milan Gačić's medal bar (Милан Гачић). Source: http://www.sremskenovine.co.rs/2014/10/sremska-mitrovica-uz-inicijativu-za-postavljanje-spomen-ploce-milanu-gacicu/
