Belgium Medal identification
Hauptmann replied to Bagramjan's topic in Northern European & Baltic States
Definitely the monogram of King Leopold II and looks very similar to the Civic Decoration... but after 30 minutes of searching my limited Belgian, general ODM and ribbon bar references as well as the web I can't find an exact match. Hoping someone can ID this one. Dan -
Hi Betty, If it's from a member then there should be no problem. We hold ourselves to very high standards here. I'm sure if you ask him he'll be happy to let you post pictures of the bayo in question. As far as the grips... what you describe are bakelite grips. Bakelite was an early form of plastic used in many items... telephones, radios, jewelry... you name it. If you go to a search engine and type in bakelite then go to images you'll see tons of different items made from this material. Re: K98 bayonets... grips were made in wood, black plastic, stag horn and ivory on custom ordered pieces such as dress or presentation bayonets) as well as bakelite which were in shades of red. Here's a couple of pics of same... I'm assuming this is the same type you are looking at: These are perfectly legit. They started to use bakelite on these around 1937 - 1938 I believe. Hope this helps. Dan

Here's my latest... I'll also show my Master badge which I've had for ages. One difference between them is the Master has the DDR arms on the flag at the top of the wreath and this one only has the flag. -
1st Pattern Silver Wound
Hauptmann replied to Hauptmann's topic in State, Civil Awards & Decorations
These are the sellers pics and I'm guessing due to the lighting used it looks more like a gold than a silver. So when I have it in hand I'll redo scans and repost. Hoping to have it later this week. Dan -

Well overdue per Bryan's request and with many apologies for it taking me so long here are scans of the badge. At the time I originally posted I didn't have a scanner, only my digital camera which I've upgraded long since. I'll also pop in pics of my latest of this type... also in silver but with a twist. -

Just for the heck of it... here's the silver hollow/solid back I've had forever and a day... but want to definitely know what type... CL, Prototype or Type 1? -

Hi all. I was hesitant to post down here for opinions but having looked through and seen several members do so I figured I'd pop it in. I just picked this up. It was advertised as a Condor Legion although I'm still trying to learn the differences as in Hamelman's reference there are Condor Legion, Prototype 39's and 1939-45 1st Type. So hoping those of you who are more adept at this can tell me where this one falls along with confirming that it's a good one. Although, if this is not a good one then I think it's time for me to hang it up as I'm not seeing anything that is giving me a red alert... Kirk to the Bridge on this one. Anyhow, here goes. Hoping for some opinions and info.

Mervyn... I absolutely LOVE these daggers! Have wanted one forever and a day... even a nice replica but so far... no luck. One of these days... Here's some info: The MSVN is the Milizia Volontaria per la Sicurezza Nazionale or Voluntary Militia for National Security. Here's a good bit of info on them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackshirts Hope this helps. Dan
