Thank you Ferdinand I wonder is A.S Popova the same person A.S Popov who the day of the radio is celebrated for In 1945 a state holiday, the Day of Radio, was established. It was decided to celebrate it annually on the 7th of May. The government has decreed to install monuments and memorial plaques devoted to the inventor of radio, to institute a badge ?Honorable Radio Operator? and the gold medal named after A. Popov. The medal is awarded by the Academy of Sciences to famous scientific researchers and inventors in the radio engineering field. The museum exposition tells the visitors much about Popov?s achievements and the significance of his works. Some educational institutions, research institutes, museums, ships and streets are named after Popov to commemorate the prominent Russian scholar. A special stand is devoted to 19 winners of the gold medal named after A. Popov. Order of Victory

It's a quarter of century since Leonid Brezhnev died. He led the Soviet Union for 18 years between 1964 and 1982, and would have celebrated his hundreth birthday this year. Brezhnev's rule will be remembered for the invasions of Czechoslovakia and Afghanistan. His period in office also coincided with economic stagnation and decline. Towards the end of his life he fell ill, suffering two heart attacks. The illnesses remained secret until Mikhail Gorbachev's period of Glasnost. Many older Russians feel nostalgic for the Brezhnev era, remembering it as a time of stability and security. Taken from Russia Today Order of Victory
