Manchukuo Order of the Auspicious Cloud first class. This item went unsold on ebay with the reserve not met at $3000.

I'm not even sure what these are made of, both bronze and brass are possible. Fortunately they weigh about the same. I looked up some info about the various metals and both bronze and brass weigh +/- 8500 KG per cubic meter. Silver weighs about 10500 kg/cu.m so that means that silver is 23.5% heavier than both Brass and bronze. So all other things being equal a 16g brass/bronze badge should weigh just under 20g if it were to be made of silver...

Thanks for trying to help Dolf, but it was in fact the mirror reverse ones I was hoping to see. Jan mentioned that the first of the three, #1236 was a solid silver mirror reverse badge. I was hoping to see something that would distinguish it from the others but there isn't anything obvious that I can see... The mystery continues. JC

You may be right!! but I think you may have 70% all by yourself though Bob! As you posted in the "hero star" thread I'm still looking for a bunch of stuff myself I just can't seem to get the kind of items from my "sources" like I could 6 months ago. The Choibalsan state prize was a missed opportunity for sure, great price too. I'm still kicking myself for that one.

The more the merrier!!! I wouldn't mind having 100 of these Your 3450 matches in appearance and weight (+-.1g) to my 3444 and 3471 so that's fine. The enamel on 3519 looks like the enamel on the solid silver flat backs (type 2.2.3) so that's certainly interesting. I'm just curious about the first one......13g seems awfully light for it to be silver. Jan could you please post some pictures of the reverse?

You're not alone there Ron. Great piece you have there Glenn! -
Thanks for the acknowledgment Ed, just doing my bit. We should really be thanking you for your contribution, which has been invaluable. Now back to the topic at hand. Here are the three known variations of the flatback J02 herders badge. The first two are the silvered brass ones and take note of the enamel and quality differences between them and the third all silver badge. Serial# 865 16g Serial# 1507 16g serial# 4400 19.1g JC

Mongolia ORDER OF THE RED BANNER OF LABOUR MPR

I've got several updates. Serial numbers etc. but I thought this was as good a place as any to start. New high ORBL type 2 #7020. I'll post both the front and the back 'cause I can never get enough of these. Front. Going by the award date of #6238: 15/04/1993 Bamyn Dojuu, I'm guesssing that this one would be from the very late '90's/early 2000 or could it be unissued??? It's in near perfect shape so who knows... They did switch to the Brass ones so maybe this was issued.... the plot thickens -
Jan, Another good question....did you bring back any "souvenirs"?
-
Ed, any chance of an update????? All I can say is, your collection is just amazing! Not sure if you do requests but I was hoping you might delight us with a side by side picture of your D01, D02, and D03. You are no doubt the only person here, or anywhere for that matter to have all three. Thanks in advance JC

It looks awfully similar to "X 02" but the suspension has a different "fingerprint" pattern on the suspesion which itself looks slightly different. -

Found this one on Ebay the other day. Should we consider this a sub-variation? Serial number variations are so much fun JC -
