    1. Question #140 Dear Christophe, I am now and the coming days in Munich and my library is in Vienna - so, I have to give a w.o. at question #140 . The organisation or corporation in question has to be rather old (RBL of the 1920s) and might have played an important role in the GPW (RB). It's an important organisation, due to the Lenin + Octoberrevolution. Best regards Christian
    2. Dear Christophe, great idea . Dear Auke, it seems, that you can handle photoshop or something similar. It would be great to incorporate the suggested big "?" into the medals . Maybe we could produce then some nice documents with the awards on - signed by Christophe and sent via pdf . Best regards Christian
    3. Dear Mark, congratulations - these are very, very early awarded Red Stars, so the research will be very interesting. Best regards Christian
    4. Dear Ed, o.k., o.k., o.k., it was just an idea ....... Best regards Christian
    5. Dear Frank, no, there is no "red telephone" between Christophe & me . I would like to have Christophe's mail & phonenumber to ask him for selling me some of his (double) orders & medals . Best regards Christian
    6. Dear Frank, well, I am a more or less an experienced hunts man since 1974 . If you still have the deer (it's property of the owner of the hunting-rights of the estate!), then drive the animal as soon as possible (keep it at a very cool place!) to a butcher, that he parts the deer and puts the meat at least for one week into a so called "Beitze". Then get the meat deep-frozen in your large fridge. So you can use the meat the coming months for your kitchen. Advice for cooking you will find in the internet or in some excellent books . Best regards & Waidmanns Heil! Christian
    7. Proposal : Titles for achievments at Christophe's quiz Gentlemen, we have already a rather large number of multiple winners at our Soviet & Eastern Block Quiz . Why not create special titles of distinction according to the number of scores ? 5 scores: "Honoured Socialist Answerer" (there are quite a lot ...) 10 scores: "Meritorious Socialist Answerer" (only one: Bryan "Soviet") 25 scores: "Hero of Socialistic Answering" - HSA (already two: Christophe & myself) For getting the HSA a second time (50 correct answers at the quiz) the GMIC-member has the right to erect a small monument with a bust of himself in the town or village, where the twice-HSA had been borne (at his own costs ). HSAs are allowed to wear the medal HSL (out of their own private collections - no copies please!) at GMIC-meetings. Too weird - Gentlemen, what's your opinion? Best regards Christian
    8. Dear Frank, what about your car ? You need any help or advice ? Best regards from Munich Christian
    9. Dear Ed, true words .... , maybe we should find a convinient time-zone for putting new questions: 18:00 to 24:00 GMT ? Well, the fact is, that a RB or also the early RBL had de facto the same prestique in the era of Civil War / Imperalistic Intervention as a later HSU or HSL. Best regards Christian
    10. Dear Christophe, absolutly perfect - congratulations to your victory #25 . It's your turn again. Best regards Christian
    11. Gentlemen, I have all 3 of Lazlo's books in my library and they are great - worth every buck . O.K., he is not an expert in phaleristics, but at least the uniforms and photographs are unique. For military historians his 3rd book about the GPW is the most interesting. Best regards Christian
    12. Dear Christophe, many thanks for the scans . I also have the (large edtion) of the Izvestia-book in my library, which shows the gold wash . My question: Why had been the quality of manufacture - gold wash & the missing 5th rivet at the beginning - so poor of that important order ? Any ideas ????? Best regards Christian
    13. Soviet Labour awards & titles - question #139 Gentlemen, we all know the title & medal "Hero of Socialist Labour", which was instituted in 1939 and comrade Stalin got the medal with s/n. #1. That award had been the most supreme distinction for labour achievments in the CCCP and all general-secretaries of the party received at least one HSL, except Mr. Gorbachev, who never got that title (maybe for good reasons ....). The fact is, that there had been Labour-Heros in the CCCP long before the HSL-Medal had been issued AND there was one award for such comrades, where the terms "Hero" & "Labour" had been inscribed. The question: Which badge, medal or order is this ? Happy hunting ! Best regards Christian
    14. Dear Christophe, many thanks for your congratulations - at least two scores ahead .... My new question - already #139 in your quiz - will be simple & easy, but the right answer will only be possible with some knowledge in Soviet phaleristics . Best regards Christian
    15. Viktor Belenko's MiG-25 Dear Christophe, that's Viktor Belenko's Mig-25 ("Foxbat") http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MiG-25 , who flew on the 6th of september 1976 with that aircraft shown on the photograph from the CCCP to Japan, Hakodate. Viktor Ivanovich Belenko was a pilot with the 513th Fighter Regiment of the Soviet Anti-Air Defense based in Chuguyevka, Primorsky Krai. All remaining answers are listed in Belenko's Wiki-entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viktor_Belenko . Best regards Christian
    16. Dear Ed, well, I think, it's up to us, to publish a comprehensive book on YU-Awards . Best regards Christian
    17. Dear Christophe, congratulations - seems that you are on the road to your victory #24 . Best regards Christian
    18. RSD-10 (SS-20) at Karlsfeld close to Wittenberg / Lutherstadt ? Dear Frank, next try : What about the top-secret Soviet missile location in Karlsfeld close to Wittenberg / Lutherstadt? There should have been RDS-10, NATO-name: SS-20, located ... GRAU-index: 15Zh45 or 15Zh53 (modern variant with 3 MIRVs since 1980) Best regards Christian
    19. Dear Christophe, I had been faster, but I did a mistake with the GRAU-index . So it seems, that you are in the lead . Best regards Christian
    20. SCUD Dear Frank, you are speaking about the SCUD-familiy or R-11-family: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scud The GRAU-index (Главное ракетно-артиллерийское управление МО, ГРАУ) of the SCUDs started with R-11, went on to R-17 and R-300 Elbrus. But your question's other part had been, where the SCUDs had been located in the DDR ... Best regards Christian
    21. Dear Auke, sorry ... , but Frank is right: Shaposhnikov - not the famous one, but the last minister of defence in the very late CCCP - had only the rank of a Marshal of Aviation and not of the CCCP: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yevgeny_Shaposhnikov . Best regards Christian
    22. New winner Dear Auke, congratulations - 4 perfect answers . It's your turn now . Best regards Christian
    23. Question # 135 "Order of Glory" - artistic & phaleristic history Gentlemen, everyone has at least a 3rd class of that order in his private collection and some of the great citations are well known . As with many Soviet orders or medals, also the "Glory" had it's prototypes or quasi-prototypes. In our case, all the prototypes had been designed by the same outstanding - and well known - Soviet artist: First, there had been a prototype of a Soviet military medal, which looked almost identical to the "Order of Glory" (except the ribbon!). Then we had a more or less authentic prototype of the order - already with the "correct" ribbon. Now the questions : 1) Who designed the "Order of Glory" and the two prototypes? 2) What was the name of the medal (quasi-prototype) and how did the award look like? 3) What was the name of the prototype of the "Order of Glory" and how did he look like? 4) Who invented the name "Order of Glory"? O.K., questions 1) & 4) should be very easy, but the winner is, who is the first to answer all 4 questions. Best regards Christian
    24. VICTORY #25 Dear Bryan, many thanks for your congratulations . Well, I scored victory #25 at Christophe's quiz - the first, who achieved that number . Due to the fact, that I am the proud owner of an original Khaldei-photograph, it's really a shame, that I made that error . But it's true: Rodchenko's angels at his industrial pictures are far more extrem, than in Khaldei's more "classical" frames . Due to the fact, that it's my #25-jubilee, the coming question will be very easy and pure phaleristic - no Soviet-Navy or Jewish Generals . Best regards Christian
    25. Great, Andreas . So, with 18 MB the video is rather "slim" . Please tell us, how to download the movie . Best regards Christian BTW: The confering of a Glory 3cl to an old veteran - in our time ! - is very impressive and moving (so, the number of confered orders & medals is growing and growing ... ).
