The Mercian Regiment
Kev in Deva replied to bigjarofwasps's topic in Great Britain: Research, Documentation & History
Charles honours regiments merger. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/pressass/20070901...-6323e80_1.html The Prince of Wales has praised the valour of service personnel deployed overseas during a ceremony to merge three historic British Army regiments. Hundreds of current and former soldiers attended the event at Tamworth Castle in Staffordshire, which marked the formation of the new Mercian Regiment. Charles told soldiers bathed in bright sunshine on the castle's parade ground, that he had no doubt that they would "stand firm and strike hard" in their new unit. The ceremony saw the formal "re-badging" of the Cheshire Regiment, the Staffordshire Regiment, the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters and their associated Territorial Army battalion. The Prince, the Colonel-in-Chief of the Cheshire Regiment and of the Mercians, said: "This solemn and historic occasion will mark the start of another chapter in the long story of loyal service to the Crown that is the history of the English county regiments. I have no doubt that the Mercian Regiment will stand firm and strike hard just as its predecessor regiments did in all four corners of the world." He added: "The Mercian Regiment is being born in an era when the British Army is displaying daily the very best qualities of bravery, loyalty and dogged perseverance in the most impossible and dangerous circumstances. "I have nothing but the most profound admiration for the sheer resilience being displayed by all our people on operations." The Prince also presented service medals and commendations to a number of soldiers during the parade, after which serving soldiers and ex-servicemen paraded through the centre of Tamworth. The three regular Army units which merging today are: the 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment, which will become 1st Battalion (Cheshires) the Mercian Regiment; the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment, which will become 2nd Battalion (Worcesters and Foresters) the Mercian Regiment; and the Staffordshire Regiment, which will become 3rd Battalion (Staffords) the Mercian Regiment. Additionally, the Territorial Army's West Midland Regiment will become 4th Battalion the Mercian Regiment. One of the units, the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters, also performed a similar ceremony at their base in Lashkar Gar, Afghanistan. - - - - - END OF ARTICLE - - -- Kevin in Deva. -
ilclifton Many thanks again for the information with regards this Italian pin, it belongs to a good friend of mine here in Deva and I will tell him about it. I find its better to ask here at GMIC if an item has a military connection, because sooner or later we get a member who knows about the item. Pity its not military but thats the way it goes sometime. Hallo Gents Again I am not a TR expert but; Is it just my eyes or is the work around the swastikas rather shoddy as well? Hallo StephenB, welcome to the GMIC a piece of advice often given here at GMIC and its timeless: "Buy the piece not the story" sellers claims often lie in the domain of pure fantasy and childrens nursery ryhmes. Hopefully you will recourse to get your hard earned cash back from the seller. Research and more research also helps. Kevin in Deva.

Gentlemen, I believe a "strapper" would have been connected to leather harness making, for use with supply waggons. But, stand open to correction. Kevin in Deva -

Belgium Wound Badge
Kev in Deva replied to love4history's topic in Central & Eastern European States
Hallo love4history, Sorry to say I didnt get it, I like the design though, Can you give any link to the regulations concerning this item? It seems a lot of bother to just give a badge out to a soldier who was recovering from wounds, when a leave / convalescent pass would have had to have been issued as a matter of course?
