Tony, am I right in thinking the use of numeral "8" on the Africa Star denotes the 8th Army and is this the only numeral allowed for wear with the ribbon? Whereas the use of numerals on a U.N. ribbon denotes number of tours with that specific U.N. Mission. (That's the system the Irish use for overseas trips on U.N. Missions). Kevin in Deva. :cheers:

Hallo Carol I thanks for the link and pictures, I add a picture of my two shoulder badges:- With regards the numbers, my wife says usually divided by 4 in the schools in Cugir (who am I to argue ) Kevin in Deva. :beer:

Hallo Carol I, talking with my wife she mentioned she wore a red lanyard and had 10 students under her "command" I will ask her what age group she was in. I know there were two specific age groups in this organisation, one wearing a cloth badge blue background with the fire, wheat cog and book above a partial cog wheel, under this the words "TOT INAINTE" on the shoulder of the blouse / shirt the other wearing a badge with yellow background and similar detail. Lanyard out of the box of issue:- Kevin in Deva. :D

My wife is familiar with the item having been a member of the organisation in her childhood. School children in classes were divided by the number of 4. No classes having more than 40 children. Student Lanyards came in the following colours:- Dark Blue:- Worn by the Commander of a particular Unit, normally in a school. Light Blue:- Worn by the 2 i/c of the Unit. Yellow:- For the want of a better description, worn by a section leader, up to 40 members Red:- For the want of a better description, worn by a Section Leader, up to 10 members. Terracotta Lanyard, worn by a Professor-Instructor in the School. Pairs of Yellow or Pairs of Blue slip on insignia were given to students deemed worthy of special merit. Kevin in Deva :D

I just missed this little beauty on an online auction:- Portuguese Mini Medal bar including mini Victory:- Seems to have come away and been replaced the wrong way around. at least I have the auction pictures Kevin in Deva :cheers:

Rear of the gilt stars:- Comparison of a Silver & Gilt Shield:- I was visiting a shop in town today that my wife frequents, the old couple who work there,a man and wife are quite talkative with my wife since they discover they all come from Cugir, my wife's home town. He mentioned a last week he was in the Militia in the old days. On this visit and I took the opportunity to show him the pieces in gilt and he said that they were exclusively used by ALL the high ranking officers in the Militia and from what I gather all of those officers were also members of the Securitate, he further explained that they had gilt buttons on their uniforms. I will be meeting him in the future and promise to pick his brains for all and any info he cares to provide. Kevin in Deva :beer:

A couple of updates with regards the Militia items in gilt:- The chap I got the items off, was at the Hobby Club last Friday 13th, he handed me a slip of old newspaper with these inside:- Gilt Eppulatte Stars, and fragments of blue paint the same as whats on the Militia shield, apparently they are all from the same set and were mislaid. Is the ring a split ring? and could it be a replacement for an original ribbon ring? Kevin in Deva. :beer:

Hallo Greg, I M H O there is no evidence that the Militia shields have been "cleaned-up" the colour appears to be gilt applied to tin as opposed to brass, the Gilt Collar badges were in the same paper with them. Kevin in Deva. :beer:

Number 2:- Kyfferhauserbund Veterans Service Medal, I think. Kevin in Deva.

Close up of the Gilt Militia, appears to be a few spots of blue paint that should clean up nicely from one of them. Only ever seen the silver version of these before. Kevin in Deva. :beer:

Loose insignia on the grey felt:- Ricky, they were pinned directly to the collar with a felt backing outline, in the colour of the branch of service:- Red = Infantry. Light Blue = Airforce. Black = Engineers. Purple = Administration. Kevin in Deva. :beer:

Was in town today when I bumped into an acquaintance from the local Hobby Club, he casually asked me if I would be interested in some old pins. From a bag he took these items, some pinned to a card some loosely wrapped in newspaper:- Needless to say I took them off his hands. Kevin in Deva. :beer:
