    1. Australian Hand-Embroidered Cover - Palestine 1940 Hello Everyone, Popped into a antique shop during the week, was shown this, what I take for a small hand-embroidered table cloth from a Australian soldier based in Palestine 1940, measures about 45 cm sq. Reads - 2/2 Field Regt. Australiancommonwealth (Cant Read) Forever To Marion and George From Arthur Palestine 1940 At the time I didn't have a great deal of interest in it, just knocked off a couple of quick pictures, which you see. With hindsight it could be worth something. What do members think? not often that one comes across a item connected with Australian troops in Palestine 1940. Any information & valuation welcome. Regards
    2. Hello Gentlemen, Came across this metal SS Badge, do members know what's it represents or is it a fantasy piece? I've included a picture along side a wound badge to give members a idea of the scale. The clip has a number 582 stamped on it. Any information welcome. Regards
    3. Hitler Youth Ski Team Competition Badge. Bought this badge earlier this year - measures 3,8cm x 4,5cm Multi- piece construction, the outer border reads "Mannschaftslauf 1935-36-Nesselwang-Bayern" with green enamel. The skis are attached with 4 hollow rivets and as the HJ diamond in the center of the edelweiss.
    4. Hello L- K, Thanks for your post, I see your traditions badge for the first time, you write it comes from 8th GBJDiv do you have any details on it? I did have a look around the internet for different GJ badges, found the biggest German Military dealer Helmut Weitze has two on offer, it was from his sales description that the quote comes from "these wearable remembrance badges were very popular with the mountain troops, worn on the uniform, although not official". Since reading the quote I have been looking through my Gebirgsjäger albums & pictures hoping to spot one being worn, no luck up till now, perhaps a member will find one. I think you words - traditions badge - much more apt. I found also on the military forum “German Combat Awards” - a Girbirgsjäger collector had posted a picture of his collection everything laid out on a large table, the collection had nine different Gebirgsjäger traditions badges amongst it. I did email him, asking if he could post a separate large picture of the 9 badges on the thread, I’ve had up till now no response, but I live in hope. Kevin’s point “lack of third Reich insignia” which I take he means, no swastika , well I’ve looked through a lot catalogues of unit badges from war time German army, air force, naval units, very few have the swastika incorporated on their design, they mostly give a suggestion of a military connection, no more. Kevin also mentions commemorative remembrance tinnies issued every year and dated for that year, given out to church service members attending the yearly service for Sonthofen Gebirgsjäger dead from WW1 & WW2, these tinnies are clearly nothing to do with the unit badge posted. Best Wishes
    5. Nice tinnies your have there, Woody, very nice indeed, don't think I've seen any of these before. Crisp and clean. Thanks for showing. Regards
    6. Hello Gentlemen, Picked up this Gebirgsjäger remembrance badge at the weekend, its the second one I own. Fine zinc measures 37mm x 46mm issued by 12th Company Gebirgsjäger Regiment 98 reverse has a list of the regiment's Russian Battles 1941 /43. I was wondering, if members know how many of Gebirgsjäger Regiments issued remembrance badges, I know too four, perhaps there are a few Gebirgsjäger collectors amongst us may know the total number or have a period picture of one in wear. I've seen them described on German sites so - "Gebirgsjäger wearable remembrance badge" - "these wearable remembrance badges were very popular with the mountain troops, worn on the uniform, although not official". Cheers P.s. - The slight red hue colour on the front comes from the camera, not on medal.
    7. Hello Gentlemen, Thanks for your posts, all is clear, post war badge. Elvis - You surprise me, that they are around 17mm and are full scale, I was assuming the full size badge was roughly on the same scale as old Reichssportsabzeichen which are around 40mm, thinking 17mm badges were the miniature to a newer, bigger, updated badge. Elvis what you write is at odds with what Uwe writes? he says full size 38mm , 45.5mm - miniature 17,5mm? Uwe, - My two badges are about 17mm. I don't quite understand your posting, the badges I show are about 17mm, not 38mm or 45,5mm. More the size of the miniature you show, although they have a different holding system pin & hook not a stickpin and letter design does not match the design of the miniature you show. The size seems to say miniature. [ Regards AlecH
    8. Hello Everyone, What do members think of these miniature badges, at first glance I thought Reichssports Badge 1st Model, however they have a different letter form inside the laurel wreath. Looked through the internet without success. Have members any idea. Information appreciated. Cheers
    9. Here are two pictures - back of armband and the armband inside out. Regards
    10. Hello Collecting Colleagues, I've never had one in my hands before, would members happen to know if its the real thing or a fake. I've run the UV light over it - it stayed dark. Opinions are welcome Alec
    11. Hello Gentlemen, Thanks for the posts - interesting reading, I never thought to put Dawes in the search panel. I was beginning to think I'd bought a dud pin, having never seen another. On Saturday I showed it to a couple of fellow collectors at the flea-market, they said it wasn't German. After reading the thread, I had a good idea where to look in the new Hüsken catalogue and found it in there. I'm pleased & chuffed to have it. The back of my pin is plain. Best Wishes
    12. Hi Everyone, Bought two tinnies and a stickpin ( small 14mm x 18mm) at the local German Flea-market, last weekend. The tinnies were quickly categorized, the stickpin less so, I'm beginning to wonder if it is German at all. Do members have any opinions. Regards
    13. Hi Strepile, Yes you are right, both are post-war copies, I wasn't so enthusiastic about them to start with, the non-magnetic cores put me off, I know they existed - but - they were part of a convolute I was offered and I needed to know quickly, I showed them on a couple of German Forums, they swiftly gave them emphatic thumbs down - EK1 reverse incorrect silver colour and a big give away the circle imprint, EK2 also deemed a fake. No harm done I didn't purchase them. Thanks for your post. Regards Alec
    14. Hi John, Thanks for your post, an interesting read, did you notice on the eagles chest the small indent, I thought it may have been connected with holding rivet, but looking again at the back, I can't find any trace of a rivet. Here's a couple of photos of the back, pin & catch, perhaps you may see something new. Thanks again for the extra information. Best Wishes Alec
    15. Hi Everyone, What do members think of these two Iron Crosses - EK1 & EK2. There's no makers mark on either and both center cores are non-magnetic. Looking edge on, both crosses have a joining seam around them and in parts there's a small gap between the cores and the silver beading. I must apologize, I took only these two shots and forgot to take one edge on. Hope there's enough to see, for members to form a opinion. What do members think - the real thing? Any information appreciated. Regards
    16. Hello Everyone, I've been offered a small convolute from a former WW2 German Parachutist who recently died, within the convolute was this Erdkampf Badge. It has no makers mark, to my untutored eye the finish on the back looks very rough, but then I know next to nothing about this badge. What do members think, is this badge is the real thing ? I must apologize, I took only these two shots and forgot to take one with the pin open. Hope there's enough to see, for members to form a opinion. Any information appreciated. Regards
    17. Hi Everyone, Picked up this book a couple of weeks ago in a second-hand book shop, a well thumbed through (actually tatty) 1st edition of “Gebirgsjäger auf Kreta” commission by General Ringel for his 5th Gebirgsjäger Division, printed 1941, along with a small Gebirgsjäger paper convolute. The book had belonged to a former Oberzahlmeister with Gebirgsjäger 100th Regt. In it were a number of things of interest (to me at least) – a signed postcard from General Julius Ringel, Knights Cross with Oak Leaf holder and a handwritten dedication by him – Zum Geleit ----kämpfer ! Ihr hat das Wort des Fuhrers wahr gemacht, das dem Deutschen Soldaten, nichts unmöglich ist. Weiter so bis zum Endsieg für Grossdeutchland ! Hürra die Gams J Ringel ----comrades ! You have made the word of the Fuhrer come true, that nothing is impossible for the German Soldier. Further on to end victory for Greater Germany, Hurray the Gams J Ringel Needless to say General Julius Ringel was an ardent Nazi, also in the book is a photocopy of the previous owners EK2 certificate, (with Ringel’s signature) won on Crete, plus original battle order command stating, how his unit were to be transported to Crete during the invasion, which units were to fly together with Geschwader Buchholz and a timetable –Third Wave 21.5.41 starting early from Tanagra, Greece landing at the airport Malenes, Crete. There’s also a printed letter from his Regiment’s Commander reviewing an earlier four days of fighting in April 1941 Greece breaking through Metaxas line, their bravery and the causalities the regiment suffered in doing so. Throughout the book are written comments in the margin, agreeing / disagreeing with the text. Actual personnel photos from the campaign stuck in on blank pages. Other items in the book and the convolute will need another post. Regards
    18. Hi Don, Thanks for your post. You wasn't so far wrong, I did have a look through my Hüskens catalogs, understood the point you were making. In the meantime, I'd posted a similar thread on WWM, a member to my surprise came up with a picture of "Deutsches Kriegsopfer Jahrbuch 1963" which had a picture of the very same stick pin on it (makes me wonder whether the pin is pre or postwar). I do feel, you deserve a better picture than I initially showed here it is. Thanks for your help. Regards Alec
    19. Hello Gentlemen, Picked up these four different organizations badge / stick pins over the past couple of days. Three, Ive been able to categorize, the fourth on the right has defied all my efforts to find a pigeon hole for it, perhaps a member who specializes in this area may have an idea?. Starting Left / Right - (1) Badge 25yrs membership Deutsch Alpine Club - 40mm dia (issued till 1945) (2) membership Deutscher Handlungsgehilfen Verband - 12mm dia, both manufactured by Deschler München (3) small (20mm x 12mm) enamelled stick pin issued to the workforce at Dornier Aircraft Works.(4) small ( 16,5mm x 13mm) black enameled stick pin badge, which I took to be connected with perhaps Deutsche Bund Kriegskameraden Veteran, or something in this vein, but it doesn't exist. Tried different words and word combinations drew a blank, looked through my new Hüsken catalog found nothing. I'm beginning to think perhaps a Freikorp unit, honestly I don't know. Perhaps members may have a idea. Cheers
    20. Gentlemen, Thank you for your prompt posts - Great help Cheers
    21. Hi, Picked up this early Bundeswehr patch from a former Gebirgesjäger. Could any member tell me, what it denotes. Thanks in advance. Cheers
