    1. Good Afternoon ladies and Gentlemen..... My latest acquisition connected to the Boer War is a fantastic run of The Times of London, April - May - June of 1901..... Great reading and interesting sideline..... I know that most of these must be on line in some form or another most likely microfiche or scanned but to have the original papers is a step closer to the actual men mentioned in the pages..... In picture showing the Casualties..... 6817 Sapper T. J. Mcginness, RE, Rheumatic Fever, is not in the published Casualty List or on the published medal roll..... 3366 Pte. E. Ward, 1st South Lancs. Regiment is not on the published Casualty List, 1109 Sgt. G. Penwill is in Casualty List..... 849 Pte. G. Ward, Wor. Regiment is also not in Casualty List....... Makes you wonder how many more are missing...... Looks like I have some great reading by the bird bath (cannot afford a pool) this summer...... Mike
    2. Looks good to me...... Post 1902 of course...... Mike
    3. HHHHHHHuuuuuuuuummmmmmmm Very interesting..... Have you tried posting your question on the British Medals Forum?????? Mike
    4. Here are a couple of Canadian Artillery pieces...... Had to take picture from angle due to flash on glass...... Mike
    5. Hello Mervyn...... I have been searching for the following Cap Badge for many years..... Mike
    6. I know of the Ceylon Police medals but would the Indian Sub-Continent be covered by the Colonial Police Long Service Medal and the Colonial Special Constabulary Long Service Medal...... I think because there were so many different states they decided to use the above..... Mike
    7. Could also be an Artillery slide rule or measuring instrument holder...... Mike
    8. I have a couple of catalogues of British Medals etc. dated 1932, 1934 and 1935, there was a Victoria Cross listed for 200 Pounds....... But you have to remember both at that time and in 1949 what the average salary was so it could have been a large sum to the ordinary working man...... Mike
    9. Mike..... I have had the repro for a number of years now and to be honest I cannot remember where I got it..... Many many years ago I was offered a full wooden case of 36 or 48 tins with the contents, company name and the date branded into the lid..... But I was a young father then and could not afford it..... Damn...... Mike
    10. Hello Tony..... Yes they were all identical...... Even today there is no difference in the ration packs...... Mike
    11. Good Afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen..... At the request of one of the members please find some photos of Boer War Emergency Ration Tins...... The one of the left is an original and unopened, the key is broken, how often has that happened and the one on the right is a reproduction made for reinactment groups..... Mike
    12. Good Afternoon ladies and Gentlemen..... Please find attached photos of a Boer War period medical kit.... It was originally made to be mounted on a pack or belt but I guess it was to heavy / awkward to use that way so it had those fittings removed you can see the remnants on the back and a shoulder strap was put on..... Some of the contents are dated 1899 and 1901 other pieces are blank.... As you can see some items are missing.... Hope you enjoy.... Mike
    13. The system will not let me edit my own post but I will add the following here: One more thing, the location that I obtained this from did not even know what it was and I don't think that they faked it as the price was only a dollar..... Mike
    14. Good Morning Gentlemen..... I picked up the following with a bunch of old WW2 uniforms and since I am not a collector of this type of item I am wondering if anyone can tell me anything about it..... GERMAN WW2 IDENTITY DISK / DOG TAG SHAPE: Written in Two Lines - 8881 SS PZ.GREN.ERS.BTL.11 (Note: the SS is in Runes type) of course it is mirrored on the other side. SHAPE: Oval SIZE: 69.41 mm X 48.91 MM / 2.736 in. X 1.897 in. Made so that it can be broken in half and has one round hole in top and two in bottom (or vice versa). The odd thing is there is no name or other personal information on the tag as you would expect to find or am I wrong. Is there any value to these? I would post a photo but my camera gave up the ghost and I have to get a new one will post photo soon as I do..... Mike
    15. Hi Mike..... No they are in a very safe place and only taken out for your photos...... Mike
    16. Good Morning Mike..... No they are still live...... I purchased a chocolate tin a number of years ago with these and a pair of dum-dum rounds were in it that were used earlier....... Mike
    17. Another Photo...... Was to big to put on other post...... Mike
    18. Gentlemen....... Thought I would throw this into the pot as well..... Purchased at an antique show a number of years ago a strip of 20 flags that had been used as bunting so printed on one side and small in size...... Seven Provincial Crests...... The newest being Manitoba...... Sometime between Manitoba and British Columbia????? Mike
    19. Gentlemen...... It goes back to the old saying....... ONE OF AN ITEM IS NICE TO HAVE...... TWO OF AN ITEM IS A COLLECTION....... THREE OF AN ITEM IS AN OBSESSION........ Boy an I Obsessed...... Or is it Possessed.... Mike
