Paul R Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 What does the abbreviation for "A.D.D." (in cyrillic) mean in the Soviet military aviation engineering field, during WW2?If someone out there has a clue, your assistance will be greatly appreciated.RegardsPaul
Mondvor Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 ADD means Авиация Дальнего Действия (АДД) - Long Distance Operating Aviation. During second world war Soviet ADD was equiped mostly with Pe-8 and Il-4 bombers.
Guest Rick Research Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 Thanks so much! In this case, when Paul posts it, they were actually Li-2 night bombers. We would be LOST without your knowledge!

Soviet Li-2 (exact copy of American DC-3) were assigned to the ADD as well. But they were less common than Il-4. They also carried out the functions of transport planes and paratrooper launchers.

Mondvor Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Paul, you are welcome About abbreviations I must say that Soviet officials by some reason loved to create abbreviations. Some of them are so odd that even native Russian people unable to translate them
