stevo4361 Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Hi guys, I was wondering what your opinions are on this 1870 EK2? If I go for it, it would be my first 1870, so I don't have any experience with '70s. I am tenatively thinking that this may be a good one, although a little rusty and beat up? Does this one seem like a good one to you gentlemen? Would sure appreciate any advice. Thank guys,Kind Regards,Steve[attachmentid=54147][attachmentid=54148][attachmentid=54149]
Daniel Murphy Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Steve, Although it is kind of hard to see the fine details from the photos, it looks like a good one to me. If you get it, a toothbrush and some light oil ought to get rid of the active rust. and kill any that is under the frame. I did that on my Hansen EK1 that was rusted and it came out beautifully.Dan
Biro Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 ...Would sure appreciate any advice... Steve Trust me.... wait for one in better condition. While this is a good one, you will regret the condition it is in 10 minutes after it arrives. Not particularly difficult to find in the 300 - 500 euro range.Marshall
stevo4361 Posted September 19, 2006 Author Posted September 19, 2006 (edited) Thanks Dan and Marshall! I guess I should wait then until one in better condition comes along, at least starting to see what to look for anyway in these crosses. Thanks guys, I sure appreciate it and thanks for the advice!Kind Regards,Steve Edited September 19, 2006 by stevo4361
Steve campbell Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 What's a good source for a 1870 EK2? I mean one you can trust with a price that is not too outrageous. I collect EK's and want to add one to my collection one of these days. Thanks, Steve
DavidM Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 HelloI got my first 1870 EK about a month ago from Helmut Weitze, www.weitze.net/ The price was right and the quality excellent - plus it got a unanimous thumbs up on here. He has a couple of 1870 EK2 on his site at the moment. Use the search feature, select the 'all words must match' box and search on 'Eisernes Kreuz'.Good hunting, and here's a photo of mine to show what you can get if you shop around.
