Chris Boonzaier Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 How often do you see a period photo of an OR wearing an 1870 cross, as opposed to a greyhair taken years and years later ?
Chris Boonzaier Posted July 3, 2005 Author Posted July 3, 2005 The details are much nicer, but the glass makes the shot difficult :-(Dont know imperial uniforms, but he was in a cavalry regt in Saarbr?cken
Chris Boonzaier Posted July 3, 2005 Author Posted July 3, 2005 and we know his name ! HK just to show size..
Guest Rick Research Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 Quite an unusually dramatic pose-- given the photographic processes of the day, you can bet that "billowing in the wind" overcoat-as-cape was WIRED into that position.I have never seen one like this!
Chris Boonzaier Posted July 3, 2005 Author Posted July 3, 2005 Reminds me of when the wife took me to the Elton John concert and the guitar player had a special fan that blew his hair back during his solos :-)
Glenn J Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 It is difficult to be certain from the photograph but I get the impression he is some of form of non commissioned military official, perhaps a Zahlmeister-Aspirant or Waffenmeister of a mounted unit. He is not wearing a cavalry uniform.RegardsGlenn
Bob Hunter Posted July 3, 2005 Posted July 3, 2005 It appears those boots have about a two inch heel. Am I seeing things?
Chris Boonzaier Posted July 3, 2005 Author Posted July 3, 2005 aye... its the Saarbr?cken version of cowboy boots :-)
Stogieman Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 1870's EK's can be rather hard to find photos of. Very nice!

The guy I got it from just knew he was in the cavalry, maybe became an official soon afterwards?
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 27, 2009 Author Posted January 27, 2009 I cannot find my 1870 EK roll.... can anyone take a look and see what his unit was?ThanksChris
