sftrooper86 Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 Hello Gentlemen,I hope this finds everyone well. Has anyone ever seen this type of marking on a decoration before? Happy Holidays,Vince
Dave B Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 Very interesting!...what actually is it,a crest or is it a bird of somekind?Dave
sftrooper86 Posted December 6, 2006 Author Posted December 6, 2006 Hello,Looks like your typical Weimar Eagle over the letter "M".Vince
joe campbell Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 (edited) to my knowledge, these were made expressly for Kriegsmarine recipientsand are rather rare.i have one, but am not at home currently, so willattempt a picture in the next 24 hours.joe Edited December 6, 2006 by joe campbell

dond Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 Look at the mark for Bruckmann and son on this page: http://www.925-1000.com/Fgerman_marks_a1884.html
gregM Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Look at the mark for Bruckmann and son on this page: http://www.925-1000.com/Fgerman_marks_a1884.htmlI hate to be a nay-sayer but I don't think those marks are the same.
gregM Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 (edited) These crosses were discuseed over at WAF. The end result was not in favor of these crosses. Here is a link to that thread.http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/sho...ght=eagle+stampIf it is not acceptable to post links to or from WAF. Please accept my apologiesand delete this reply Edited December 7, 2006 by gregM
joe campbell Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 it looks like the crosses discussed in that thread wereKAG's and eagle W's. no pictures, at any rate.joe
Motorhead Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 I would like to see the whole cross in good pics-obverse and reverse.Otherwise it's really hard to judge.Micha

Motorhead Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Well,I hate it to be the bringer of bad news-this is no K.A.G! The stamping is a fake. The core looks a little like a "KO",but the pin doesn't match-it looks more like the pin of a "CD800",but it isn't.Sorry, but I wouldn't like to have this EK in my collection. It seems to be that someone has found an"old" stamp.....Micha
gregM Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 A month or so ago, there were a lot of these fakes floating aroundebay. Some marked KAG some KO many were unmarked.
Guest Brian von Etzel Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 Patina on the back looks chemical applied. This one has so many red flags. The pin and hinge, not imperial I think.
