Gerd Becker Posted July 10, 2005 Author Posted July 10, 2005 Extended Service badges... What were these exactly for?
Alfred Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 Hello Gerd,Post number 2: Academy badge - nice badge It is an global military college badge (not higher academy badge). These badge was founded after WW II and were awarded till ~ 1955. The letters BY are the russian abbreviation for "military school"On the srewplate you can see the name of the producing factory. "Siegesfabrik Moskau" The military college badges also exist with years and for the different branch of servicesAfter 1955 they introduced the white rhombus shaped academy badges, with the state seal and the red star.regardsAndreas
Alfred Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 (edited) Hello Gerd,Post number 3: specialist badges for soldiers and NCO?s There are 4 grades: 3,2,1 and M for master. Older ones are made out of brass andenamel, newer ones are made out of aluminium and paint. In the most cases brass ones have scewplates. These badges were founded by the ministry of defence in the year 1954, 13th July. They were awarded till the end of the soviet union. Conscript soldiers can get the 1st. 2nd. and 3rd class. Only long sevice soldiers canreach the M master class.Normally the 3rd class can be awarded after one year, by the commander of the bataillon. The next class can be reached after 1/2 year later.regardsAndreas Edited July 10, 2005 by Alfred

Alfred Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 Hi Guys, bought this badge a few minutes ago on ebay. I have heared that it wasgiven to crewmember of soviet ice-breaker ships.Has anybody more information about this red flag badge. regardsAndreas
Guest Rick Research Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 Andreas-- what you have there is the M1937 cap badge for a sailor of the "Narkomvoda"-- People's Commissariat of Inland Waters (River) Transportation. Here is the officers' cap badge-- same metal flag only gilt edged, on a bullion wreath:[attachmentid=5835]Image ? 1998 A. N. Kutsenko, "Znaki Razlichiya Ministerstv i Vedomstv SSSR." This is a small red pamphlet with "Kokardy" under a hammer and sickle. There seem to be some errors in this especially of dates but it has the most different non-military organizations (military too) that I have seen.
Chris S Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 This is a nice early Para badge....ironically the soviets pioneered military parachuting...but this seems to have been lost to history...A 1931 badge which shows their early achievements.....try and find a German para badge this early!Chris
Guest Rick Research Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Starshina S. M. Brazhnets wearing one of those, at the usual angle, in 1938:[attachmentid=10301]
Chris S Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 That's a great photo Rick...especially as all the other photos I have seen with para badges show them worn on the other side.Chris
Guest Rick Research Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Maybe that's before and after the change over from screwback Orders being worn on the right to the left, after 1943.Air Force Commissar Lt. V. S. Betmanov's Instructor Parachutists is unfortunately partially airbrushed out in this artsy soft focus 1940 Bruce Willis on a baaaad haircut day portrait[attachmentid=10308][attachmentid=10309]But in this admittedly TINY to see 10th March 1947 flying instruction unit group shot, the officers 4th from right in the front row and 3rd from right in the back row are wearing their badges on the right side, angled rather than left side angled /, on their right pocket flaps.[attachmentid=10310]
Chris S Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 This is for ten years anniversary of the Revolution awarded in 1927, made of silver and enamels this badge was mainly issued to ?Chiefs in the Prison Service?.There was also a ?Chiefs of Police Militia? This I am still looking for but the prison service is the rarer, so I found the harder one first.Chris
Chris S Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 The back which is all hallmarked silver.Chris
