Oberst General Posted July 12, 2005 Author Posted July 12, 2005 Can you guys tell me if these are real?←Reverse
Oberst General Posted July 12, 2005 Author Posted July 12, 2005 ReverseI realize that the pics are small and that the paper on the front will not help you
luftguy Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 These are heavily faked. Close-ups would definately help. Have any of the maker marks been listed?Bill
Oberst General Posted July 12, 2005 Author Posted July 12, 2005 These are the only pics i have rigt now
Guest Darrell Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Here's my take. Although closer pics would definitely help. The first one looks like a good "100".The second one is a bad one ... East Europe Fake. The Third one looks to be a good "variant" L/56 with the Pin and Catch Reverse setup. Normally these are found with the screwback hardware.

Bill Garvy Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 I agree with the assessments made thus far. The L/56 you show is indeed a rare Funcke & Bruninghaus variant. They are more commonly seen in screwback. Here is another for comparison. . . (I can hardly wait to post scans bigger than 60kb!)
luftguy Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 Bill,You beat me to it. When trying to determine if these where good, I also found the L/56 in the databank. Good to see you here also!Bill
Bill Garvy Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 (edited) Good to see (?) you here, too, Bill! Yes, our Militaria Collector's Forum Iron Cross Databank (shameless plug, I know. . .) is really turning out to be quite a worthwhile endeavor! Here's a link: "M.C.F. Iron Cross Databank". Mike K Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 (edited) Hi,The first cross is 100% FAKE - an Eastern European example that flodded the market a few years ago. This one looks like it has the fake curved L/54 mark hiding behind the pin, ABOVE the catch. As stated above though, the second cross is a known fake (CURRENTLY flooding the market) and the L/56 is probably genuine.RegardsMike K Edited July 13, 2005 by Mike K
