Jacky Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 So this was the group you mentioned to me??I'm eager to find out what the pictures looked like.p.s.Victory Medal (United Kingdom)Don't you mean the war medal?? After WW2, no victory medals were handed out... Only for the first world war.Kind regards,Jacky
Herr General Posted January 30, 2007 Author Posted January 30, 2007 Ofcourse your right, it is the War Medal. Yes this is the group we talked about. Here's our man before the war:
Herr General Posted January 30, 2007 Author Posted January 30, 2007 His medal bar. Made before he received his British medals. He also choose not to wear his Nijmegen Marching Cross in this set.
Hendrik Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 His medal bar. Made before he received his British medals. He also choose not to wear his Nijmegen Marching Cross in this set.Lovely bar !!! Yummy Correctly without the 4-days marching medal as it's only authorised in the military to be worn in the year the participation to the march took place.I take it this is a surplus group of the colonel as the UK medals and XXXV Officer's LS cross aren't amongst those ? Excellent group in any case !!!Cheers,Hendrik
Herr General Posted January 30, 2007 Author Posted January 30, 2007 His miniature and ribbonbar( My camera appears to be broken. I can't focus with it. I will try to make better photo's in the following days! )

He received permission to wear his British medals in 1983, only 7 years before his dead. His resistance memorial cross:
Herr General Posted January 30, 2007 Author Posted January 30, 2007 Some small items:And lots and lots of paper to read in the following days....
Herr General Posted January 30, 2007 Author Posted January 30, 2007 In the police:After the war in the Princes Irene Brigade:
Jacky Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Correctly without the 4-days marching medal as it's only authorised in the military to be worn in the year the participation to the march took place.HendrikHello Hendrik, this is indeed a nice bar, but the 4days marching cross was allowed to wear permanently as is any other medal of the Netherlands, as it's also a royal decoration in the netherlands.Your description of the restriction is for the belgian medal of the march of the IJser if I'm correct.Kind regards,Jacky
Jacky Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 (edited) p.s.How comes he's wearing 4 stars on his OHK, while he has only 3 clasps on his war commemorative cross??Also what is he wearing just below his button on the first picture??kind regards,Jacky Edited January 30, 2007 by Jacky

They believed he also received the ,,Arnhem-Nijmegen-Walcheren 1944" clasp.I think that he is wearing the Nijmegen March cross in that picture! Edited January 30, 2007 by Herr General
Herr General Posted January 30, 2007 Author Posted January 30, 2007 This document is to big for my scanner. He received this in honor of finishing the Dutch Higher Military school
Herr General Posted January 30, 2007 Author Posted January 30, 2007 This is all so far ( haven't started on the three maps! )What I can't find is a diploma for the Merit Cross. Does anyone know if these where given to recipients? Or did they only receive a copy of the royal decree?
Jacky Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 As far as I know, one received a copy of the royal decree, but I think we will have to wait untill the master reveals it all......he's moving at the moment I thought...Kind regards,Jacky
Herr General Posted January 31, 2007 Author Posted January 31, 2007 I found some more interesting papers. Including several battle orders from Indonesia with hand drawn maps etc. Also all of his military ID cards are in the lot.
ErikMuller Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 That was a mistake by the Van Wielik firm.Hmmm... no mistake, usual Van Wielik delivery: never what you asked!Since they got new owners at the end of the 1980's most medal bars come wrong when returned to it's owner. Last time I heard someone had brought his medals to Van Wielik he had to wait 7 months before they finished and three of his medals were in the wrong place By the way: Very nice group and certainly worth the money you paid for it!
Herr General Posted February 5, 2007 Author Posted February 5, 2007 Thanks. I haven't found the time to read all the papers!
Jacky Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 That was a mistake by the Van Wielik firm. They believed .....I think that they should be less thinking and more checking books and references!!!And they're quite expensive too,Now I know a few more adresses for mounting medals and batons.Kind regards,Jacky
DutchBoy Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Lovely Dutch bar and great that it comes with the documents and other paperwork and items! Always interesting to see awards from the old Motherland... Matthijs.
