So this was the group you mentioned to me??

I'm eager to find out what the pictures looked like.

    p.s.

    Victory Medal (United Kingdom)

Don't you mean the war medal?? After WW2, no victory medals were handed out... Only for the first world war.

    Kind regards,

    Jacky

His medal bar. Made before he received his British medals. He also choose not to wear his Nijmegen Marching Cross in this set.

    Lovely bar !!! Yummy

Correctly without the 4-days marching medal as it's only authorised in the military to be worn in the year the participation to the march took place.

I take it this is a surplus group of the colonel as the UK medals and XXXV Officer's LS cross aren't amongst those ? Excellent group in any case !!!

    Cheers,

    Hendrik

Hi Hendrik. I think that he never updated his mini and fullsize ribbonbar. Maybe he didn't want to wear a long row of medals? He received permission to wear his British medals in 1983, only 7 years before his dead.

    His resistance memorial cross:

    Hello Hendrik,

this is indeed a nice bar, but the 4days marching cross was allowed to wear permanently as is any other medal of the Netherlands,

as it's also a royal decoration in the netherlands.

Your description of the restriction is for the belgian medal of the march of the IJser if I'm correct.

    Kind regards,

    p.s.

How comes he's wearing 4 stars on his OHK, while he has only 3 clasps on his war commemorative cross??

Also what is he wearing just below his button on the first picture??

    kind regards,

    Jacky

That was a mistake by the Van Wielik firm. They believed he also received the ,,Arnhem-Nijmegen-Walcheren 1944" clasp.

I think that he is wearing the Nijmegen March cross in that picture!

This is all so far ( haven't started on the three maps! )

What I can't find is a diploma for the Merit Cross. Does anyone know if these where given to recipients? Or did they only receive a copy of the royal decree?

    As far as I know,

one received a copy of the royal decree,

but I think we will have to wait untill the master reveals it all......

he's moving at the moment I thought...

    Kind regards,

I found some more interesting papers. Including several battle orders from Indonesia with hand drawn maps etc. Also all of his military ID cards are in the lot.

Hmmm... no mistake, usual Van Wielik delivery: never what you asked!

Since they got new owners at the end of the 1980's most medal bars come wrong when returned to it's owner. Last time I heard someone had brought his medals to Van Wielik he had to wait 7 months before they finished and three of his medals were in the wrong place :violent:

By the way: Very nice group and certainly worth the money you paid for it!

I think that they should be less thinking and more checking books and references!!!

    And they're quite expensive too,

Now I know a few more adresses for mounting medals and batons.

    Kind regards,

Lovely Dutch bar and great that it comes with the documents and other paperwork and items! Always interesting to see awards from the old Motherland...
