Ed_Haynes Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 (edited) There is an immense (and I do mean IMMENSE) lack of reliable information on Libyan awards. Any and all identifications should be seen as tentative. Repeated promised of information have, so far, come up empty. Guess one just has to ask Colonel-Brother in person? Some online sources, none of them very good:http://faculty.winthrop.edu/haynese/medals/libya.html http://www.omsa.org/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=521 http://www.medals.org.uk/libya/libya.htmhttp://www.coleccionesmilitares.com/cintas/cintasaf.htm and scroll down to "LIBIA"http://www.netdialogue.com/yy/Africa/Lybia/Lybia.htmhttp://www.4dw.net/royalark/Libya/libya.htm Edited February 6, 2007 by Ed_Haynes

Megan Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 Star:These were sent to me by James Miller, the master goldsmith who made them! He says that he made it about 1980 and it was all hand-made - the order was for 14 sets of the insignia and the short timescale meant that there was no time to prepare steel dies! 1
Paul H1 Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 Yes, I know, but for those around him, it is still "Colonel" -- modesty! One of the funniest things I ever witnessed in my 22 years in the Air Force. We were conducting operations off the coast of Libya back when Libya was a "big bad guy," in American foreign policy. Our Colonel wanted us to do something really dangerous and stupid. He kept arguing with the pilot about the mission. He finally said, "Damnit Capitain, I'm a Colonel, you're a Capitain, is there something you don't understand about this equation?" The Capitain answered, "With all due respect Sir, Qadaffi is a Colonel too." Exit left red-faced Colonel and Capitain. Not sure what happened in the hallway, but we did do the mission the capitain's way. Paul

922F Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 3rd Class:Thank you Megan--These are most likely Bichay of Cairo made pieces with reverses similar to the style of Egyptian royal Nile order insignia. Often the center will have an Arabic Bichay mark and sometimes Egyptian silver fineness marks appear on the reverse badge body. I have not seen the flat dull green enamel type (the neck badge) before-- the brighter hue with metal work visable underneath is more typical. I 1
