Dave Danner Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Here's a Cambodian medal I've had for a while (actually the only Cambodian medal I have). The reverse states "Norodom Suramarit Roi du Cambodge" or "Norodom Suramarit, King of Cambodia". Ed Emering's site, the best resource on the web for decorations of France's former colonies, has an image of one, but all it says is "Medal of Norodom Suramarit" which doesn't exactly tell me much. Any idea what it was for?
Chris Boonzaier Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Not much help in why it was awarded, but it must date from 1955-1960.BestChris
JBFloyd Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 These are reign medals, awarded in gold, silver and bronze grades by the king for "outstanding support" to the throne, the king and the royal family.
ThaiDave Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 (edited) Dave, To plug my own site There is more on it here: www.indochinamedals.com/cambodia/cm13_medal_of_norodom_suramarit.html Edited November 27, 2011 by ThaiDave
Megan Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Busy researching Cambodian medals at the moment - this is the 3rd class (bronze) medal. It was instituted on 12 April 1955 and awarded for personal services to King Norodom Suramarit, who was crowned 3 March 1955 and died on 3 April 1960. I am, needless to say, on the lookout for images to enhance this section of my site
