Kev in Deva Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 Hallo Jacky, not 100% sure but his Beret insignia, I believe is connected to the Dutch Marines Kevin in Deva
Jacky Posted April 10, 2007 Author Posted April 10, 2007 What I can see is that he's wearing a wounded- badgeCommander of ??01 Knight Orange Nassau02 Nieuw Guinea Memorial Cross with year clasp03 0405 four-day March Prestation-medal of Nijmegen, with crown (2x done)060708091011121314Could you please fill this paper in?Kind regards,Jacky
Herr General Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 This is mister John Snackers, veteran and chairman of the Vomarns ( Vereniging oud Mariniers ). He is also active in a few organisations like the L'?toile du Bien et du M?rite", Interallied Military Organisation Sphinx and the Unie van Nederlandse Veteranen. Most of his decorations are from those organisations.http://www.vomarns.nl/
Ulsterman Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 well, #9 is that "European federation of Combat veterans"-a small society organized around the sale of a handsome medal. I have seen it worn by Hungarian, British, French and German veterans since 1975. Vive l' EEC.
Kev in Deva Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 Hallo Gents, I think its a pity to see an ex-serviceman with more bought medals from "Associations" than official issued service medals There is a Danish U.N Association offering an "Official" 50 year Commemoration Medal for the UN for over 80 Euros. Kevin in Deva
Jacky Posted April 13, 2007 Author Posted April 13, 2007 Thus his own bar would already have sung of a long service, but now he's a mere christmas tree who whines about having been awareded too few medals..???A rough estimate would be that about 60% of his bar is from veteran organisations (bought or not).Kind regards,Jacky
Ed_Haynes Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 A real shame. These ego-boosting "Viagra Medals" do nothing more than discredit the man and his legitimate service. How sad.
Herr General Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Reminds me of all those imperial german soldiers wearing organisation medals ! http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=17138
Kev in Deva Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Hallo Gents, what would be nice, would be if the regulation regarding the of wearing official issue medals to the left of the jacket and "Association" medals to the right, as is the norm in some countries.Would tend to seperate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak.Kevin in Deva

His official medals include:Netherlands Commemorative Medal UN Peacekeeping Operations with clasp 'Libanon 1979'Police Long and Faithful Service Medal with clasp 'XXV'Inauguration Medal 1980Wedding Medal 2002UNIFIL MedalAnd then he wears no less than 4 unofficial UN veteran medals. Oh well at least it makes me less shamefull that I wear the Luxembourg Diekirch March Medal in my group At least I did walk 2x 40 km for that
Kev in Deva Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 (edited) Hallo Erik, your buddy would have been in U.N.I.F.I.L. Lebanon the same time as me then, I was with "C" Company, 46th Irish Battalion You mention Police, was he an M.P.? I have as of yet, added no Association or commemorative awards to boost my 3 official medals. Kevin in Deva Edited April 15, 2007 by Kev in Deva
Jacky Posted April 16, 2007 Author Posted April 16, 2007 That's you??? just joking, you looked very stern at us....But 3 medals to boost isn't a shame! It's about the story behind it.WW1 veterans got only 3 medals, Star, Warmedal and victory medal. But what a slaughter was it.....
