Hungarian Order of Merit

I thought I would share my latest purchase, It's the Hungarian Order of Merit, Officer class. No makers mark but in fine condition with a nice patina on the reverse, I like the quality of the enammeling of these, done to a very high standard. Were these made in Hungary or other places?. I was suprised to see that it is quite a bit larger than the Knights class of the order.

Beautiful item, and getting very difficult to find now, Alex. These were made in Budapest but some were reported (by Bob Elliot, maybe) with a Bertrand hallmark on the pin. The immediate post WW II Hungarian Republic ('46-'48?) also used this order and a similar design but with a triangular shield type coat-of-arms in the center. The current republic Order of Merit again uses basically the same design, though the coat-of-arms on a traditional shield replaces the central device.

Hi 922F Thanks for the comments. This award is one of my themes. Prices do seem to have gone up a bit though. My next quest is to obtain a third class Commander class, and also military versions, I have an officer military.

Nice items! Prices going through the roof, not just a bit! Even in Hungary, these are hard to find.

Hi Hunyadi, quite right, when I compare prices for the two Knights bought several years ago with the Officers?(Only?one?shown,?the?other?is?military)?purchased last week, I know that the officer's is rarer and will command a correspondingly higher price than the Knights, but WOW, significant increase.
