Tom Y Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 This bar's being offered by an eBay seller whom I think is honest but not that knowledgeable in this area so I'll keep his ID to myself for now. I think I see at least a couple things wrong with it but would like some other opinions.
David S Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 Did the seller polish and rehang them?I would expect the Centennial after the Bavarian.
Tom Y Posted June 1, 2007 Author Posted June 1, 2007 Did the seller polish and rehang them?I would expect the Centennial after the Bavarian.Yup, problem #1. The finish on the medals is bothersome too, although I have a bronze gilt 70/71 Spangenstuck that's just as shiny. What about the shape of the bar?
Schießplatzmeister Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 Yuk!OK, here is what we appear to have. Original medals polished to the nth degree. An 1866 campaign cross that looks RECENTLY painted. Ribbons that look awfully clean. A more-modern mounting style with a non-period pin. Awards that do NOT follow the proper precident!Run away! Run away!I wouldn't want this monstrosity if it were given to me!A bad day in the "lets make a mounted group because it will look cool" lab.Oh no! I may have just ticked off a bunch of folks that "re-create" medal bars. No hard feelings, to each their own. I don't think that we need to start bringing up THAT topic again!Best regards,"SPM"

Tom Y Posted June 1, 2007 Author Posted June 1, 2007 I'm glad my suspicions are confirmed. A couple other things I found odd were the double line of machine stitching on the backing and the ridge across the front. It's a shame, cause the seller has some very nice items.
David S Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 The only reason to buy it (as low as possible price) is to show others what NOT to do.The bar in it's original form would be smashing.
Tom Y Posted June 2, 2007 Author Posted June 2, 2007 Great news The seller has withdrawn the bar and is our newest member. Welcome aboard, Warren
