    Institution of orders and decorations, as well as accepting ones by Swiss citizens is forbidden by Swiss law.

    An exception has been made to decorations for participants of international peace missions.

    In accordance with the Directive of the 10.3.2000 on the delivery and the use of badges of special mission for fulfilled commitments abroad, the use of these badges is allowed "to the military that have been outstanding without interruption in a mission"

    The commitment that gives right to the use of an insginia should have a duration of 150 days.

    Other eventual commitments of smaller duration can be added

    Rubans (ribbons)

    Three classes of ribbons exist:

    a. Badge of service

    b. Qualification

    c. Badges of commitment

    Any other ribbon that those mentioned can be taken

    The badge of service indicates the number of days of service that the payee has made.

    Him class of the badge shows the experience equally of which takes it

    The delivery conditions is:

    Days of service Insginia class

    90 Badge of benefit of service

    170 With 1 rosette in bronze

    250 With 2 rosettes in bronze

    350 With 3 rosettes in bronze

    450 With 1 rosette in silver

    550 With 2 rosettes in silver

    650 With 3 rosettes in silver

    750 With 1 rosette in gold

    850 With 2 rosettes in gold

    950 With 3 rosettes in gold

    The distinction is the recognition of the good results that the military one had overcome by means of an exam. Condition them they are regulated by a particular regulation

    Blue ribbons are for marksmanship (pistol and rifle), level 2 with red stripes

    Yellow/Gold ribbons are level 1 only and are for achievement in instruction

    Green is for sport (level 1, 2 and competition sport is red)

    Only the highest level of a ribbon can be worn. They are worn on this order : high mountain (guide) / marksmanship / instruction / sport.

    They are preceded by the badge of service and ribbons for foreign service

    The badge of commitment indicates that the one behaved had participated in defined commitment, in a certain period, in Switzerland or abroad

    The ribbons received by missions of the UN and of OSCE sont equally as badge of commitment

    The ribbons are taken centered to 0,5 cm above the right pocket of the chest.

    Can take a maximum of 9 ribbons, according to these approaches:

    a. Badge of service (max. 1 ribbon)

    b. Qualification:

    1. Of high mountain

    2. Of shot with personal weapon

    3. Of instruction;

    4. Of sports;

    c. Badges of commitment:

    1. In Switzerland (max. 1 ribbon);

    2. Abroad

    3. Missions UN / OSCE (max. 1 ribbon of each).

    The level can only be taken but high reached of each class of ribbon

    The new ribbons worn on the "A" dress were prededed by something totally new in the Swiss army which could be nicknamed "days of service ribbon".

    In the swiss army the majority of the people involved are non professionnal ("milice"). The young swiss has to spend a certain number of days in the army.

    The total for a private (and for the private first class and the lance corporal) is 260 days of service.

    For a sergeant, it is 400 days; a master sergeant 430 days and for quartermaster sergeant/senior sergeant major 500 days.

    It has been decided that the experience gained during all these days of service will be indicated in the way of a special ribbon worn on the "A" dress before all other ribbons.

    This ribbon is pinned on your tunic after your initial 90 days of service

    Regarding the seven medals shown above (Minurso, Swisscoy, Peace Support, etc.) ONLY the ribbon is authorized for wear on the uniform. I.e.: NOT the shiny thingy hanging from a ribbon called medal !!! Although officially attributed, the medal must stay in its box... or framed and displayed on the chimney next to grandfather's General Guisan's portrait... or wherever it may seem fit... but, weird as it may be, NOT on the uniform... at least for the time being...!
