Troy Tempest Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 (edited) Hello gentlemen, I received this badge, and it was labelled Preussischer Orden in Messing, Krone und L?we. Is that the correct name of this badge please? Would it be best described as a badge or a medal? And does anyone know what sort of criteria was associated with this please? Thank you as usual! Kev in Deva Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 (edited) As its got Krieger Kamaradschaft (HASSIA) on it,its connected to a War Veterans Association. So, its not in fact a Military Order at all.Kevin in Deva. Edited September 3, 2007 by Kev in Deva
Stogieman Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 And a Bavarian organization probably given the symbols I see.
militaria0815 Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 The badge is from an artillery veterans association from HESSEN. It is the Hesse lion not the Bavarian, HASSIA is the latin name for Hessen.

militaria0815 Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Hessian lions get more tail How would you explain HASSIA (Hessen) on a Bavarian badge?
Kev in Deva Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 How would you explain HASSIA (Hessen) on a Bavarian badge? Hallo militaria0815 Tom Y is reffering to the difference between the two lions of BAVARIA & HESSEN,and the fact that the HESSIAN lion has MORE TAILS!! He is not in fact contradicting your post.Kevin in Deva

He is not in fact contradicting your post.Kevin in Deva If we go a little bit deeper in the Hessian history we will find following:After the revolution 1n 1918 the lion as heraldic figure was modified: From that time on had no more crown and sword and ONLY ONE TAIL.So we see a pre-1918 Hessian lion on that badge.
Troy Tempest Posted September 5, 2007 Author Posted September 5, 2007 Thanks Kevin, Stogieman, militaria and Tom! I appreciate your knowledge and research prowess! I have altered my records to remove the erroneous description that was given me by the seller!
saschaw Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 On Ebay currently listet is a matching gilt cross, in the box with a maker's (or salesman's) tag from Darmstadt (in Hessen, by the way). I had such a cross for myself years ago, but it was a hard job to get it sold, even for very low money. It's actually rare, but not many people are looking for those ... http://cgi.ebay.de/KriegerKameradschaft-He...1QQcmdZViewItem
