Kev in Deva Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 (edited) Any closer pictures of the rear hinge pin and clasp area??Kevin in Deva. Edited September 8, 2007 by Kev in Deva
Alex K Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Hi dante, unfortunately I have my doubts, about it being period, the pin doesn't look right, and the frames look like a later productregardsAlex
Kev in Deva Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 It might just be my eyes bur the rust looks to be too symetrical, all around the edges,is it real or chemicaly applied??Kevin in Deva.
Biro Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Thanks guys, value?Dante - this is not an original 1870 EK. To a collector like yourself, it should have no value. Marshall

Stogieman Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Detlev Niemann had some nice examples of the Godet private-purchase 1870 EK1 in his weekly update. I suggest reviewing them and saving images as they are very difficult to find and study. In addition, Previtera's new edition of The Iron Time is invaluable as a reference for the Wagner 1870 EK1's.

gregM Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 This particular cross can be found in 1813, 1870 & 1914 configurationsboth pin back and screwback and with various makers marks applied to them.
Alex K Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 perhaps someone could enlighten me, are these possibly "Latvian" fakes once again?regardsAlex
gregM Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 perhaps someone could enlighten me, are these possibly "Latvian" fakes once again?regardsAlexYes, they are making the rounds again. Here are a couple more examples----
Alex K Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 Hi Greg, these are quite frightening and worry me as a collector. if looked at from a novices point of view they are quite convincing. And could be taken as the real thing with lots of money wasted. I have learned, particularly from this and other forums- fortunately to treat most if not all of early EK's with suspision. Fortunately with the exchange of info on forum sites we may, in the end advise and highlight such crap as the one posted and collectively learn to avoid the pitfalls which plague our hobbyregardsAlex
