    An unknown Red Army soldier

    Recommended Posts

Received this interesting photograph from my friend Robert Dais Sutton. It appears to be a Red Army Officer wearing an Order of the Red Banner, as well as another award I do not recognize. What else can any of you more experienced Soviet collectors tell me from what is evident on this photograph. . .

From his age, that is almost certainly a long service Red Banner awarded in the first mass bestowal of 3 November 1944 for 20 to 24 years service. He did not have 25 years of military service in yet by the time this photo was taken. So we can tell what DAY he got his decoration.
