juvatwad Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 I've been practising. What do you guys think of these? I think the fighter clasp looks OK. The other two, no.
juvatwad Posted October 15, 2007 Author Posted October 15, 2007 What are the problems with the fighter clasp?Ian
J Temple-West Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 What are the problems with the fighter clasp?IanIanFirstly, let me say that?. and this is a personal thing?. the ?Osang? maker mark is probably the most used by fakers so any piece I would consider buying would have to be totally textbook. It?s a pity that we don?t have a full frontal of the clasp. If we did, I think you would find that the wreath (although close) is somewhat different from the original.
J Temple-West Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 Luckily we have a clear shot of the reverse, and comparison clearly shows that the badge in question (below) differs quite a lot from the original, above. So, let?s see if you can point out the areas of concern that I have.
juvatwad Posted October 16, 2007 Author Posted October 16, 2007 John,This is the kind of stuff I need. From what I see, the wreath is too thin, the arrow is also thin, the maker's mark is wrong, and the punched-out triangles are sized wrong. Please continue to teach me!Thanks, Ian
J Temple-West Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 Spot on, Ian.Other points: size of catch-plate, length of hinge/hinge-plate.
François SAEZ Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 John is right on all points and his way of comparing with photos is very good and very educative and help people to choose/understand by themself

juvatwad Posted October 17, 2007 Author Posted October 17, 2007 One of my handicaps is not having originals against which to compare these others. In the interim, I hope you guys don't get tired of my inquiries.Ian
