    M?vel?desi = Cultural Otthon= At home

the lower one is probably the community (?) these were and are put on all governemnt buildings, educational centers, etc.... my rough guess is that it was put on a cultural center meant to make people 'fell right at home' but that is just a slightly educated guess...

    Bryan,

Good to see another "local" boy here on the HUPR Forum. When I'm OTTHON Ottawa is where we live. Right now we are in Budapest for a few years. I've still got some Yugo stuff from my time in Belgrade (97-99). These signs are fairly common in Budapest flea markets but that doesn't make them cheap. They still use them on some government building but are beginning to move towards brass plaques etc. to identify the different organizations housed in the buildings.

    Regards,

    Gordon

Thank you Gentlemen for your information! I really appreciate your help. I like this kind of shield. I think they are very nice and very representative of the time period. I mostly collect East German signs, but I also like other communist related shields like this one. Thanks again for your help! Bryan

BTW Gordon, how will you be able to bring back in Ottawa all the stuff you bought in Europe? Will you need a container? :)

    Bryan,

I'll probably need a container. That is if my wife, who keeps threatening to throw me out of the house the next time I bring a uniform home, doesn't torch the stuff in the meantime! I've looked at a number of these signs in Ecseri, the largest "tourist trap" flea market in Budapest but they want tourist prices and I don't want to pay that. One of these days I'll find something that suits the bill and sneak it into the house.

    Cheers,

    Gordon
