GeorgeCL Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Odd.Never incountered that shape cross before in a russian badge.Looks to be the Imperial crown.Could be a society order of some sort. or just a piece of jewerly. Can we get a scan of the reverse?George
medalnet Posted December 16, 2007 Author Posted December 16, 2007 The reverse is the same. Maybe it is Austria?
Chris Liontas Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 The reverse is the same. Maybe it is Austria? I've never seen a Russian cross in this type of configuration. Usually, crosses from Orthodox Russia are of the pattern with the tilting scales on the base This looks more like a malteese cross--I've never seen an Russian Orthodox cross in this style. Still really neat looking.
Chuck In Oregon Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 The design is reminiscent of a "Jerusalm Cross". If you google that with the quotes you'll find a lot of references and images for comparison. No idea what this particular item is, though. I once shared a very old ring that has that basic design in one of the sub-forums.Chuck
Ed_Haynes Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 (edited) WAYYYY outside my zone of comfort or competence, but very different from Alexander Lebedev's cross (http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=21760) and very un-Russian looking. Edited December 20, 2007 by Ed_Haynes
Guest Rick Research Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Are the red arms some sort of glass/crystal/stone or enamel?I agree that crown is EITHER Russiaan or Austrian. But the metal appears to be ? brass rather than the sort of hallmarked silver/gold/gilt that a "high end" piece might be expected to have.
