I am looking for more specific info on the career of this German Naval officer. who commanded a U-Boot during WKI (that's all data I have)

Did he get a L?beck Hanseatic Cross? It's not shown with his February 1918 Rank List awards (Pour le Merite, HOH3X, EK 1,2, OK2).

What's the date shown for the L?H?

Born 1885, died 1956.

He had a rather unfortunate career, being captured 17 June 1918 when the U-64 was sunk by the gunfire of Sicily-Sardinia convoy escort, the sloop "Lychnis," which had first rammed the submarine. 38 of Moraht's crew of 42 were killed.

A Fregattenkapit?n zS zV, he was naval commandant of the Danish island of Bornholm, which the Soviets attacked and occupied on 10 May 1945 (after the war had ended), remaining a Soviet captive until 1948.

The date of his L?H is 17.04.1918. So that would prove that it would not be stated in a 02.1918 RL. :-)

Would there be a picture of the Moraht? (Preferably wearing his hanseatic award)

Not that I've ever seen-- which is why your Roll work is important in identifying groups.

He was a "one submarine" guy, commanding ONLY U-64 from March 1916 until taken prisoner by the British in June 1918.

I forgot to mention he had a Crown Order 4 before the war, and would have had the XXV Years Service Cross on his discharge after the war with doubled sea service and war years time.

Now if it was a photo of WW1 naval aviator and world's best POW escapee/Luftwaffe master interrogation center commandant Erich Killinger....

CORRECT birth year 1884 noted-- I have fixed that in my 30 year old xeroxed copy of the 1918 Rangliste, which is covered in decades of my scribbles.

That Plm in Silver gild is to be seen in the Armeemuseum Schloss Rastatt. It is obviously manufactered after 1918 (Godet?). The order is said to be worn by Morath.

What roll did Moraht play in WW2?

His WW2 assignments are shown in post 9.

In 1939 he was the financial director of the Rhenania-Ossag mineral oil/oil tanker business in Hamburg and presumably considered more important there than doing his any-warm-body obscure harbor commandant war service that the was called up for in 1942.
