bigalni Posted September 30, 2005 Share Posted September 30, 2005 Ive recently acquired as an addition to my small but growing collection of miltary compasses what i believe is a WW1 issue German Military Compass and carrying pouch.Im attaching some pics.You can see two fold away siting pieces on top.The bottom of the compass is rebated around all four sides as if its designed to fit onto something.Might it be Artillery issue or similar?Any comments on this would be welcome...how are the siting pieces used?Alan Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Chip Posted February 6, 2007 Share Posted February 6, 2007 Chris,I have never seen a German compass that I would consider an issued piece. There were some privately made compasses that used military-associated names, i.e., "Armee Model", etc. It is somewhat surprising there wasn't an issue compass considering how widely they were used. Perhaps the Germans felt that they were "officer" items and therefore had to be purchased along with the rest of the officer's kit.Chip Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
