DanCz Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 I am primarily a collector of all things Third Reich but I do have other things too. These include a cased example of the Military Cross (George V). Now my question - - - it is plain on the reverse but I always thought it should carry the year it was awarded. Can anyone please offer any comment ??Thank you.
Chris Boonzaier Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 HI,WW1 crosses dont carry the dates.BestChrisP.S. IMHO the best looking award EVER.
Ed_Haynes Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 As I recall (being at work away from sources) dating commenced something like 1938. No George V MC would have been dated. Official naming, of course, only dates from the recent reorganisation and extension of the MC to all ranks.
DanCz Posted April 16, 2008 Author Posted April 16, 2008 Thank you Chris - - - I agree - a beautiful decoration - - I have several more but these all carry dates, for example 1942 and 1945, on the revese hence my question.By the way my favourite Britsh decoration of all is the DSO - - sadly I just have the one example.Thank you again.
Michael Johnson Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 P.S. IMHO the best looking award EVER.For sheer purity of design, it certainly can't be beat. Sadly I've only ever owned one, and that was sold.
