broken9597 Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 Are the 1870 "Maidens Cross" truely hard to come by? What's the value of one in "good" condition? Thanks for your help. Jeff
Tom Y Posted April 21, 2008 Posted April 21, 2008 The only one I've seen for sale in the last several years I now own. As I recall I paid around $1500 back when the dollar was still worth something. It's cased with a companion 70/71 in Stahl on a Damenschliefen (sp?).
redcross Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 I've seen several for sale in the lat few yearsone was on ebay recently, no bids, opened at $1500the problem is this is one of....the differences between the period issueand all the others that are out thereeasiest test is black light on the ribbon & threadsome have plastic instead of hard enamelsome look too brand newand some are more subtileI leave it to someone else for the fine points
broken9597 Posted April 22, 2008 Author Posted April 22, 2008 Yep, that one on ebay was mine. Couldn't move it for nothing. Maybe someday. I wanted to put it in to someones collection that would appreciate the history behind the award. Ulsterman Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Well, for something like this I'd never buy off eBay-too many well made fakes/copies/reproductions. Many other collectors feel the same way.No offense, but this is a piece that needs to be handled and inspected before purchase for many cautious collectors.By the way, whence did it come?
broken9597 Posted April 22, 2008 Author Posted April 22, 2008 Thanks, I can totally understand that. I just thought that ebay would be the easyest way to sell it as well as safest. And I'm sorry I don't understand your question, "whence did it come?" Please elaberate. Thanks.Well, for something like this I'd never buy off eBay-too many well made fakes/copies/reproductions. redcross Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 where it comes from mattersif I knew it came from a well knownand trusted seller of imperial german medalsI probably would have bidin this price range you needreferences that we can check[or even to see it and hold it][emailing the person you bought it from wouldbe the least amount of caution I would want to takeand I'd need to know that I could trust them also]an alternative is to offer money back guarenteeshould I take it to my expert, and he advise that it wasn't rightits about the only way you will get top dollar
Ulsterman Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Exactamundo!if for example, this piece had once been part of the Seymour/Ludvigson/Colson collection-then I'd snap right away!
broken9597 Posted April 22, 2008 Author Posted April 22, 2008 Well I can help you about where it came from. My wife was cleaning out an old house and found this, along with a sword, three bayonets, an arm band, a cloak/cape, and a veterans wings. I would be more than happy to offer a money back guarentee, but I know you will not be disappointed. As I mentioned in my ebay post there is some damage to the enamel, but is other wise in good condition. I have many pictures showing, and can take more if a certain angle is desired. The picture in my post above is one of the pictures of the cross. Biro Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 broken9597Your piece looks fine - the only thing letting you down slightly with regard to selling it is the condition and the quality of your photo's.Try it in the sales section here or over at WAF. It'll go, the price is realistic if you have a wee bit of 'wiggle room' re the enamel chips. Ebay is not the ideal platform for expensive militaria.Marshall
broken9597 Posted April 23, 2008 Author Posted April 23, 2008 Normally my pictures are fine. I use a 12.2 mega-pixel camera. It's the limited space and haveing to size them down that destroys the quality. I'll see if I can tweak the pictures again and repost them. And unfortunately I can't sell anything here until I'm off my probationary period. And at WAF, you have to pay $25 to join, and I'm short on cash right now. I'm very sorry, this post is full of negativity. Here, let me change that....It's Sunny and 75 degrees outside. Beautiful!!! LOL!broken9597Your piece looks fine - the only thing letting you down slightly with regard to selling it is the condition and the quality of your photo's.Try it in the sales section here or over at WAF.
