Gordon Williamson Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 This one was a real bargain. Dealer sold it as a Zinker. Arrived today and it is of course a really nice Tombak piece. Most of the original gilt still intact.
Gordon Williamson Posted May 6, 2008 Author Posted May 6, 2008 And most of the blued finish still there on the reverse too. Not bad for 170 Euro !

Gordon Williamson Posted May 7, 2008 Author Posted May 7, 2008 Hey, I thought you gave up collecting German stuff! Seriously though, that's a great score in more ways than one! Beautiful!! TimAlmost but not entirely, just gave up on the bulk of 3rd Reich stuff. Back to my collecting roots and just concentrating on Kriegsmarine and Feldgendarmerie. Mind you even if I had given up completely, I wouldn't have been able to resist a bargain like this !

Gordon Williamson Posted August 5, 2008 Author Posted August 5, 2008 Hi Stuart,The material you refer to as Brass, most likely was Tombak. Its a yellow metal alloy with a bronze type appearance but when rubbed/polished it can look like Brass. The one you had, if it appeared brass, was probably from the same base metal as the one in this thread.
