VJK Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 Hi!This picture is currently advertised on ebay.de. Clearly he is not wearing K.u.k. general's insignia - is he a post-war Austrian general, or not Austrian but German? Can anyone please put a name to him.http://cgi.ebay.de/GROSSES-PHOTO-KUK-GENER...1QQcmdZViewItemMany thanks in advance,VJK
Glenn J Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 Hi Valdis,I don't immediately recognize him but he is an Austrian Bundesheer General officer wearing the pre 1933 pattern uniform. 1933 saw a reintroduction of the traditional k.u.k. pattern insignia.RegardsGlenn
VJK Posted June 13, 2008 Author Posted June 13, 2008 Hi Glenn,Sorry for the delay in replying, but I'm spending most of the summer in Georgia (Caucasus, not USA) and have only occasional access to the net. Many thanks for your info, I hope someone will be able to put a name to our mystery man.Best regards,Valdis
VJK Posted June 11, 2016 Author Posted June 11, 2016 I'd like to come back to this pic - maybe after 8 years there is a possibility to identify him. Kind regards, VJK
Christian1962 Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 no, is not. We have tried for many times. His decorations are too common. Regards Christian
graham Posted June 20, 2019 Posted June 20, 2019 VJK, He looks somewhat like Generalmajor Eduard Barger???? historica.fandom.com/wiki/Eduard_Barger
Bayern Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 VJK , Austrian Bundesheer General with the first type of uniform . very like the German Reichswehr ones. the man is a Cavalry or Artillery officer as his sabre shows

The General was not promoted to Generalmajor until 24 December 1935, some two and a half years after the reintroduction of the former k.u.k. style uniform. Eduard Barger is pictured here still as a colonel in the newly reintroduced uniform whereas the General officer at the beginning of this thread is wearing the older pattern Bundesheer uniform. graham Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 Glenn, Thanks for the info. No cigar this time, but is was fun doing the research. Regards, Graham
