Verdun16 Posted June 8, 2008 Author Posted June 8, 2008 Medal came in this unmarked white cardboard box wrapped in tissue paper,Bryan
hunyadi Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 To my knowledge this was a commemorative medal for Soviet troops who were 'invited' to keep the peace in the Hungarian People's Republic after the 1956 revolution....
Verdun16 Posted June 8, 2008 Author Posted June 8, 2008 Hi Hunyadi, Thanks for the info. It's really a nice piece and I am a little surprised that I have never seen one for sale since I got these. Was wondering if they were ever awarded or did someone think that it might be a bad ideal in 1991.Bryan
Guest Rick Research Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Maybe made by those loonies who are still selling their invented Supreme Soviet of the USSR imaginary government "awards?"
Lapa Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Maybe made by those loonies who are still selling their invented Supreme Soviet of the USSR imaginary government "awards?" Rick,This one is legitimate. A couple of years ago, leftovers were sold at the Mint shop in St Petersburg.Marc
Elmar Lang Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 (edited) It is the medal awarded to the troops of the Army Group South (see the inscription on the medal) when they left Hungary. In 1991, Hungary, turned to democracy, kindly asked Russia to withdraw her occupation forces, stationing there since the repression of the uprising in 1956.I think that very few Hungarians went to cheerfully salute the leaving troops...Best wishes,Enzo Edited June 10, 2008 by Elmar Lang
