Martin W Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Well,it has been a long time coming but i finally received my tombak Schwerin.A very nice but slightly worn original with about 50-60% of it's original guilding. It fills a big hole in my HSK collection. Now i just have to find the elusive tombak and zinc examples by BH Mayer.Regards,Martin.
Martin W Posted August 7, 2008 Author Posted August 7, 2008 It compliments its later zinc counterpart very nicely.
Gordon Williamson Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Congratulations, very nice indeed and hard to find in any condition, let alone a nice one like this.

Martin W Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 Paul, please post some pic's of you new badge.I would love to see them.I just picked up another tombak Schwerin myself. At first i thought i was sad that the reverse hardware was removed.I later found out that this was done by the recipient so that he could place the badge in a album. So i now have a very personalized piece for $160.00.Regards,Martin.
Martin W Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 (edited) The "modified" reverse. The wings on the eagle have been bent upwards. This probably occured during the process of removing the hinge.Vise or clamp marks are visible on the eagle. Edited November 15, 2008 by mwestley
paulbear Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 Okay my scans and photos are not up to yours
Martin W Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 Paul,i hate to be the bearer of bad news but from what i can see your badge is not an original piece. The maker mark is incorrect,as is the color of the basemetal.I beleive this is a well known fake from Arizona. Can you post close up pictures of the MM?Regards,Martin.
paulbear Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 no need you confirmed a nagging thought many thanksPAUL
Martin W Posted November 16, 2008 Author Posted November 16, 2008 Paul,i hope you can get your money back on this one.Regards,Martin.
