Gordon Williamson Posted October 2, 2008 Author Posted October 2, 2008 Unit assignments. The first entry is what will become relevant later, but a good part of his service was with KG 27 "Boelcke".
Gordon Williamson Posted October 2, 2008 Author Posted October 2, 2008 Ranks/promotions. He ended the war as Stabsfeldwebel.
Gordon Williamson Posted October 2, 2008 Author Posted October 2, 2008 Awards include the Long Service Medal and the Combined Pilot Observer Badge.
Gordon Williamson Posted October 2, 2008 Author Posted October 2, 2008 So what makes this guy interesting ?Well, in the closing days of the war he was assigned to the Feldj?ger. Here is his Feldj?ger Ausweis.
Gordon Williamson Posted October 2, 2008 Author Posted October 2, 2008 Anything related to the Feldj?ger is exceptionally rare. Even if this guys service with them was only for a few days at the end of war, its a set I'm delighted to have.
Ulsterman Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Wow!Nice catch. I'd love to have interviewed him.He was in a long time only to get a KvkX. Odd that his LS medals aren't listed.
Gordon Williamson Posted October 2, 2008 Author Posted October 2, 2008 Yeah. I guess he must have had some interesting tales to tell.He does have the 4 Yr LS entered which he would have qualified for in 1939, but all awards of the Wehrmacht Long Service Awards were suspended on the outbreak of war. Technically he wouldn't have qualified for the 12 Yr LS until 1947 anyway.A lot of his service in the second half of the war seems to have been on the home front as staff member at various airfields rather than combat flying so probably didn't have much opportunity to earn many awards.
Paul R Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 IT is a great book which provides a nice detailed history of service! Thanks for sharing!
