Aside from his birthdate 15.10.1883 and his rank date as Intendant 1.11.38 I have absolutely no record of his existence on the planet Earth before the May 1939 army Beamten Stellenliste.

Even Keilig spelled his name wrong--back in 1958-- as "Jausch."

Without knowing what he was during the First War-- that left ZERO trace-- some of these are not knowable:

    1) Iron Cross 2nd Class 1914

    2) war Merit Cross 2nd Class X 1939

    3) ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

    4) Hindenburg Cross X

    5) Austrian WW1 Commemorative medal X

    6) ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

    7) Wehrmacht long service (somehow :banger: )

    8) Wehrmacht long service (somehow :banger: )

    9) ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

    10) ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

If this photo has been copied from his entry in the Hildebrand Generals series, as posted online by internet copyright pirates, then knowing WHAT he was 1914+ and WHERE he was born would help. The scan is too small and blurry to see his ribbons clearly and his complete obscurity and lack of ANY career paper trail is baffling!

    That would be bizarre too--

I thought maybe it was the ?M3K in 3rd place (indicative of a combatant officer :Cat-Scratch: ) but can't tell from the scan-- but that ALONE? No Troop Cross... no routine Signum Laudis Medals... no 1908 (25 years old...) Franz Joseph Jubilee Cross (hmmmm, maybe that IS it on the end, after a 1938 Anschluss Medal?) ... none of the usual normal K.u.k. stuff....

and yet DID get a 1914 EK2-- sparsely handed out to Austrian officers with GOOD records, let alone this Invisible Man????

    Weird weird weird.

From... NOTHING... to "General!" :speechless1::speechless1: :speechless1:

    Gentlemen,

Generalstabsintendant Karl Jansch was indeed an Austrian. Born 15 Oct 1883 in Vienna and died 30 Oct 1969 also in Vienna. Originally an infantry officer he became a military intendance official at the outbreak of war in August 1914. He did serve throughout the interwar years with the Bundesheer until taken into the Wehrmacht in March 1938. He apparently served as chief of military district administration in Bohemia-Moravia throughout the war. Regrettably my Bundesheer army lists are now back in the UK but I will check his decorations next month. The photograph is not from the Biblio series and is in fact much much better than the apalling picture in volume six of the "Generals".

    Regards

    Glenn

:Cat-Scratch: Well THAT is a relief!! I was starting to think he was an extra-terrestrial!

    SO:

that would mean his two Wehrmacht long service awrads are the gold 25 and 12. That must be the 1908 Jubilee Cross in last place.

It is still an extremely weird combination of awards!!!!!!!!!

Not for a member of the then-Austrian Bundeswehr. Unles he were an active "underground" Nazi 5th columnist.

The medal was for the marchers-in, not the being-occupieds.

Yet that is what it looks like.

    His awards are freakishly non-normal.

    Disturbing to statistical probability.
