Iver Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 A friend has bought an Austro-Hungarian award in this case, but it?s surely not A-H... Have heard it should be something british.. Can someone help?
Alex K Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 ..one more photo...From the photo of the interior, a circular medal, surmounted by a crown and a Tri-fold ribbon?, not British in my opinion, could well be Austro-HungarianAlex
Alex K Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 I've had another think, and it COULD be British as it appears to resemble a typical British medal case, The indentaion could well have come from the medal with which it was purchased. As to what medal came in it originally I don't know. Most would have had the name of the medal on the front, perhaps a civilian decoration of some sort.regards
Iver Posted February 19, 2009 Author Posted February 19, 2009 The case was bought with A-H Bronze Military merit medal (SIGNVM LAVDIS). But it doesn?t "fit" in there... And A-H decorations don?t have needles on ribbon...
Ralph Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Case appears to be that of a British Imperial Service medal 1920-1939 era.
peter monahan Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Case appears to be that of a British Imperial Service medal 1920-1939 era.I didn't think British medal cases had a cut out for the pin, because the medals aren't issued with a pin, just a length of ribbon which the recipient is expected to know or learn how to mount for wear. Or am I wrong on that?Peter
Ed_Haynes Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Something like the ISM would often be issued with a pin, as it would be worn alone, loose, or at least not mounted on a bar, being a civil award. That is part of what makes Ralph's suggestion ring true.
Verdun16 Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Ralph and Ed are dead on as this is a case for the ISM (King George V type),Bryan

Ralph Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Hi Peter,ALL British Decorations come cased and Pin mounted. During WW2 the awards came in cardboard boxes rather than in a case but even then they were pin mounted.Certain decorations e.g. IDSM/DSO/Volunteer Decoration even have the pin as an integeral part of the award i.e. the top clasp always has the pin.Ralph
Iver Posted February 24, 2009 Author Posted February 24, 2009 All: Thanks for help... Only one question.. Is it hard to buy that medal? how much does it costs?

A clear case on my part of engaging typing fingers before starting brain! Don't know what I was thinking, but then I'm usually on this forum between 6:00 and 7:oo AM central Canada time, so probably just a case of too much blood in my caffeine stream. Thanks for setting the record straight. Peter
censlenov Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 You can find these ISM's for about $25 uncased.
