This is a small Imperial-Soviet group. I hope there will be some interest here. It includes a photo of A. A. Ulianov in his tsarist uniform, his badge of #4 Battery, Caucasus Artillery Grenadier Brigade, his screwback Red Banner and a 1939 NKVD spravka.

    Enjoy.

His NKVD spravka from 14 May 1939.

If anyone would care to translate this for me, I would be grateful. I can read a little bit of it but not enough for it to make sense to me

    Enjoy.

The red scribbles-- forget it. The blue part seems to be typical boringly repetetive Stalinspeak to the effect that he was working for the 5th Section GUGB of the PCIA in Moscow and was OK to serve at the Tiflis Mountain Artillery School.

I'm not sure WHAT the 5th Section of the Main Administration of State Security was. IT just calls him Comr. without any rank titles.

Thanks, Rick. I thought it was just a vetting of some sort and that seems consistent with what you wrote. In my limited experience, the red scribbling was the OIC (of whatever rank) indulging in unsolicited comments.
