Valgor Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 It is a fleemarket find, bought for a nickle and a dime.It just felt right.Never really id' it.Help is, as always, appreciated.
Valgor Posted April 7, 2009 Author Posted April 7, 2009 If not American, i would guess Italian or Polish? On account of the shape of the eagle.
Paul L Murphy Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 The badge with the star and wings is a miniature version of the French Air Force pilot qualification badge.
Valgor Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 The badge with the star and wings is a miniature version of the French Air Force pilot qualification badge.French? On account of the crown , i'd never have guessed.Paul, only some numbers are stamped inside, wich seemed very unrevealing to me.
Paul L Murphy Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 French? On account of the crown , i'd never have guessed.Paul, only some numbers are stamped inside, wich seemed very unrevealing to me.The badge with the crown is not French, the badge with the wings and star is. This could suggest that it is a non-French cap for someone who got their pilot qualification in France due to being allies.
Valgor Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 The eagle badge "feels" Italian to me.The plot thickens...I had the same idea btw (Italian or maybe Polish)If this were WOII, and Italian, with a pilottraining in prewar france,...My my, that would be quite a find. But before i dream off, lets see if anyone can date or determine the eaglebadge. My apologies for not taking a pic of the inside. I will try to make an extra picture. IR = possibly instruction(e) , reconnaisance?
Ed_Haynes Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 (edited) I was thinking RI = Regno d'Italia?Or, maybe, for the republic? When did the mural crown come in? Edited April 8, 2009 by Ed_Haynes
Valgor Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 Having seen some other badges with the same crown now, Yes i do believe we are looking at a post 1945 item. (late fourties or fifties?)Not a period in time that captures my interest i'm afraid. You all have been a great help so far!Any info on the cap badge is still welcome!
