Robert Noss Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Is he an Austrian Navy Officer ?There seems to be a Navy Hat on the table.Photo was made in Vienna. Not dated. As always, any infos are welcome.Kind regardsRobert
Mike Dwyer Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 No, not navy. The Impreial Austiran Navy wore s pretty standard looking dark blue navy uniform. I don't know what he is.
TacHel Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 I'm no expert in Austrian ODMs... But isn't he wearing his awards backwards?
Gordon Craig Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Robert.Interesting photo. I am a long way from my reference material at the moment but he appears to be a regular officer of the KuK. The fancy braid on the cuffs was worn by some units. Hopefully I can do better when I get home next week.Regards,Gordon
Tom Y Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 The braid on the sleeve seems to indicate Honved .The hat looks like a Pelzm?tze with the dual A-H Wappen.
Ulsterman Posted April 10, 2009 Posted April 10, 2009 Not a diplomat? I thought the second and third medals were Saxon and saxe-Weimar.
Gordon Craig Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 (edited) Tom Y,I was leaning towards Honved myself but there are other Infantry units besides the Hoved that had braid like that on their sleeves.Ulsterman,The hat is not of the type worn by Diplomats. They wore the Beamten type hat often referred to as the fore and aft hat. The Foreign medals are interesting.Regards,Gordon Edited April 11, 2009 by Gordon Craig
