Gents, I've been here a few weeks now and it is time i posted a few items from my collection. Here are a few of Luftwaffe Generalleutnant Franz Gotthard's medals and medal bar. Soon to be put up for sale, so posting now when i have the chance!

    Let me know your thoughts.

    Best wishes

    John

There was no Luftwaffe General named Franz Gotthard.

The awards being worn by whoever is in the photo on left do not match the medal bar.

    :Cat-Scratch: Thanks, Dave!

Question remains: what documentation is there to attribute the medal bar to him? Without a photo clearly showing that EXACT medal bar being worn by Frantz (who is NOT the guy in the lower left photo), it is not a unique and therefore identifiable "loose" medal bar without supporting paperwork.

Hi guys. Thanks for posting your thoughts.

Hi Rick. Both pictures are of Frantz Gotthard (apologies about mis-spelling before)...i know they are probably too hard to see here due to only being able to post up to 70K, but both men in the pictures look the same. How are you so sure that the lower left photo is not him? I will try posting them in separate posts when i get back from work.

As for the ribbon bar...they didn't always match the medal bar did they?

I am afraid no documentation came with this grouping, :ninja: (so i see where you are coming from Rick) and neither did the pictures, that was just something i went and searched for myself to see if all added up. All items are original, but all original to Frantz i know it is/will be hard to say. This group was sold to me as you see it, as all belonging to Frantz. Again i know it is hard to prove that these items were actually his, but imo equally hard to prove that they were not his. :cheeky:

My best to you gents!

    Hi Gentlemen,

If this picture is of Frantz why is he not wearing his german coss in gold? also being a general in a flak batt would he not wear his flak badge?...(Not trying to be negative, just trying to learn)

    Regards ...Dave

    Hi Dave,

He wore his Flak badge below his EK1. If you look at the picture on the right (very small i know) you can see the flak badge below the EK1. This picture is of him with another General (Generalleutnant Friedrich Frhr. von BROICH??) when they were captured in Africa (Tunis) by the Americans in 1943.

    Kind regards

    John

Too bad it cannot be proven that it was the General's awards. I see it is now for sale on WAF?

    Hi Don,

Yeh now up for sale.....i just bought one medal bar too many and now am broke. :speechless:

As for proof, there are no docs with this group so i am going on the previous owners word. I own a few medal bars that came with "no proof" and no-one seemed to have a problem with them. This one looks fine too, all original. I see where you are coming from though and it is too bad. The combo is a bit common to say they belong to Frantz but these were the awards he received (talking about the medal bar in particular here) from what i read. IMO just because there is no positive ID does NOT mean they are not his awards.

    Kind regards

Potential buyers need to know this though. Heck, I own Rommel's IAB. I just can't prove it except that the dealer told me so...... The bar is fine, the attribution (as a definate) is not.

Good point Don. I will change the description tonight to "attributed to"

    Thanks
