Sergeant 08 Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 (edited) Interesting description! Interesting price! Who wants to buy it? Edited March 14, 2011 by Sergeant 08
Robin Lumsden Posted March 14, 2011 Author Posted March 14, 2011 Who wants to buy it? Not me!
Thomas W Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Let's all pitch in to split the cost, and then we'll take turns keeping it in our houses.
Naxos Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 (edited) Looks like that eagle laid an egg. Edited March 14, 2011 by Naxos
Sergeant 08 Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 (edited) Not me! I hope all collectors think the same! PS: It is a fake of a Wehrmacht tradition cap skull on a Pickelhaube. Edited March 14, 2011 by Sergeant 08
Sergeant 08 Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Let's all pitch in to split the cost, and then we'll take turns keeping it in our houses. Mmmmhhh...... I think no!
Chip Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 According to K.-G. Klietmann, such a prototype helmet did exist at the Zeughaus in Berlin. Chip
Thomas W Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 According to K.-G. Klietmann, such a prototype helmet did exist at the Zeughaus in Berlin. Chip Yup. It was allegedly ordered on June 6, 1916. Every time I see a period photo of a Guard Pioneer wearing a Pickelhaube, I look closely to see if there's that little Brunswick skull. No luck yet. Maybe someday I'll find a photo of a guy wearing a Guard Pioneer Pickelhaube with a Brunswick skull and a sleeve badge with a black Prussian skull. Can you imagine the bidding war on eBay?
Chip Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Yup. It was allegedly ordered on June 6, 1916. I think the article I read said that it was only a prototype and that the government never went into production. Chip
Sergeant 08 Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I'm sure, that on the prototype was a typical Imperial Brunswick skull and not a later used Wehrmacht skull pattern.
Sergeant 08 Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 What's the story behind the last three photos? The photos are from the photo album of an officer, who was a Flammenwerfer soldier at the end of the war.
Thomas W Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 The photos are from the photo album of an officer, who was a Flammenwerfer soldier at the end of the war. Do you have a date for the last photo?
Sergeant 08 Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Do you have a date for the last photo? Sorry, I have no date for the photo.
Thomas W Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Sorry, I have no date for the photo. It may be postwar, because many of the men seem older. At least four men are veterans of Sturmbataillon Nr. 5 (Rohr). Interesting!
Robin Lumsden Posted March 15, 2011 Author Posted March 15, 2011 Non-regulation FW skulls here? ................. Metal?
Thomas W Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Non-regulation FW skulls here? ................. Metal? Really hard to say. Can't tell if they have oval cloth backing patches or not. The regulation officers' badge was embroidered from silver bullion. It would be a huge hassle to embroider a skull directly onto a sleeve. Plus, the officer would have to give up his tunic while it was being embroidered. They may indeed be non-regulation metal skulls. At any rate, the position so high on the sleeve indicates that the two men are veterans of Sturmbataillon Nr. 5 (Rohr).
Sergeant 08 Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 The only other available information is, that in the photo album are pictures from the period 1914-1920.
Sergeant 08 Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 (edited) Who has ever seen this skull (right page, first row, second badge)? Edited April 1, 2011 by Sergeant 08
