Robert Noss Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 Got this one today on a fleamarket.Suppose he is a Kaiserj?ger, hmm ???Detail of the cap:And a detail of his gear. What was the axe for ?Kind regardsRobert
Tom Y Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 It looks like an ice axe. Quite handy for rock climbing ( and liquidating Bolsheviks ) The dots on the haft are interesting. I have an Austian entrenching tool with similar dots/dimples, though not as many. Could these be a code?
Ian Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 I think you will find that the holes are in fact used for measuring. Each hole indicates 1cm and if you look carfeully every fifth is a tripple hole indicating 5cm's.
Chris Boonzaier Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Germans had almost the same axe, in a section some guys had entrenching tools and some had these. I have 2 or 3 from Verdun.
